Fighters

Fighter - Reach the Modern Age and the World War II-style Fighter (modeled after the legendary British Spitfire) is now available. Fighters offer real punch, both against enemy aircraft and ground targets, and they also give you the ability to project power quickly and fly past enemy defenses. They are extremely useful for scouting, strafing enemy ground units (including Caravans and Supply Wagons ) and for detecting and shooting down enemy Bombers before these can do damage to your units and buildings.

IGN Units Showcase #1

Advanced Fighter - All aircraft require an investment of Wealth and Oil. Oil is a costly resource to gather, requiring significant investments in infrastructure, and Wealth gathering won't maximize until you start holding enemy cities. As you can no doubt imagine, building a large air force (much less quickly reinforcing a dwindling air force) isn't the first thing you'll do in the game.

When you do finally deploy wings of Advanced Fighters into enemy territory, however, you can quickly pin down ground forces, and putting Advanced Fighters aloft over your own cities stifles bombing sorties more effectively than any other measure. Sending Advanced Fighters out as patrol units with your ground forces will keep Helicopter harassment off your Tanks as well.
