Light Infantry - In ancient times, slingers were unarmored, lightly equipped missile units, armed with a leather sling and a pouch of bullet-like stones, or even lead "bullets." In Rise of Nations Slingers are fast, inexpensive, missile units, and they are one of the first units you can train at your Barracks. They are very handy for harassing the neighbors, or protecting the homeland from the unwanted annoyance of an early rush. They do not require Gold, which is a major economic plus at the game's beginning. They are probably one of the very first units many players will build. By the time you move from the Ancient Age into the Classical Age, however, you will want something more durable to replace them. Like all Light Infantry, Slingers are particularly good against the foot archer line, and can devastate contemporary bowmen. |
