Submarines

BomberSubmarine - in the Industrial Age, you can upgrade your Fireships to this even more deadly Submarine. The Submarine possesses all the strengths and weaknesses of the Fire Raft/Fireship line (cheap and deadly, but poor target aquisition), with the added value of being a ranged weapon. It also benefits from being hidden.

Submarines are not, however, permanently invisible. They are spotted whenever they fire, and can also be spotted by any "detector" units or structures, which includes light ships (such as the later-game Destroyers and Cruisers), Helicopters, Scouts, and Observation Towers. In the late game, upgraded Towers dot the fashionably well-defended coast as Sub killers.

Unterseeboot

The Submarine, as is the case with most units in the game, can eventually be upgraded to the more powerful Attack Submarine, and as long as these units steer clear of their persecutors (see above), they can be a dangerous addition to your fleet.

IGN Units Showcase #6

The Dock. Home of the Submarine, as well as the complete line of Heavy and Light Warships, and Fishermen. Fishermen can be a handy way to boost your Food gather rate when your Cities hold their maximum allotment of farms. Submarines are an effective way of reducing your opponent's fishermen's gather rate.
