Bantu: The Power of Migration
|
The Bantu power in Rise of
Nations is the Power of Migration. As the Bantu player, you can build one more city
than the regular limit (up to eight, normally), and the cost of your cities is 75%
less than the normal price.
The Bantu can also have a 100% greater population
limit throughout the game (i.e., you can have twice as high a population limit as
your Military Technology research would otherwise allow), and can exceed the ultimate
limit in the game by 25 percent. There are offensive benefits, too: All Bantu Barracks
units and Citizens move 25% faster than their equivalents from other nations. And,
finally, Bantu unit upgrades do not require military
research; you can purchase Unit upgrades as soon as you advance an Age.
The Bantu have five unique
units, and unlike the unique units of some other nations, they are spread across
the spectrum of the eight Ages of Rise of Nations, from Ancient to Information Age.
As soon as you construct your first Barracks you can begin recruiting Umpakati.
These units replace the standard Slinger; they are faster, cheaper, and have slightly
more hitting power than a Slinger while fulfilling essentially the same role.
Once you reach the Classical
Age, you can upgrade your Umpakati to the Yangombi Umkapati. Yangombi, by the way,
was the Bantu god of creation. This unit, in addition to having the superior attributes
of its predecessor, is also stronger than the Elite Javelineer, which is the standard
unit in this line for all other nations in the Classical Age.

 |
In the Medieval Age, you can trade in the Umpakatis for the Impi. The Impi, true
to the heritage the Zulu regiment that inspired it, is faster and more accurate
in combat than the Elite Javelineer. When used well and in numbers, the Impi can
be a devastating unit.
Extend Bantu might to the Modern Age and get to work producing the Hawk Fighter
(which somewhat resembles a U.S. P-38 from World War II), as soon as it is available.
The Hawk, like all Fighters, is strong vs bombers, and useful vs ground units. But
the Hawk is even stronger, and even more useful, than regular Fighters. In the Information
Age, you can upgrade your Hawks to Eagle Fighters. Enemy ground units and Bombers
have more to fear from the Eagle than from any other
Fighter in the Information Age.
