Inca: The Power of Gold

The Power of Gold. How quickly it translates into a powerful war machine (and victories) in the hands of a good player. This power gives you the ability to generate Wealth, as well as Metal, from your Mines, and your Wealth Commerce limit is raised by 50 percent. By itself this won't win you enemy cities, or fend off invading armies. But strong armies cannot exist without strong economies to back them up, and the Inca economy is one of the best.

The Inca military's special units start with the Inti Clubman, who replaces the standard Javelineer and appears in the Classical (second) Age. Although lacking the ranged fire effect of the Javelineer, the Inti Clubman is a powerful melee unit, and much less expensive than equivalent Heavy Infantry units. It is also faster than the Javelineer.

When the Inca move into the Medieval Age, you can step up to the Inti Maceman, who replaces the standard Elite Javelineer available to your less fortunate foes. The Inti Maceman shares the bonuses of his earlier Clubman cousin, only magnified. Both of them, it should be noted, do suffer from one weakness - they are vulnerable to enemy missile units, and cannot afford to be caught standing still when attacked by same.

The dawning of the Age of Enlightenment roars with Inca Mortar fire. This powerful weapon replaces the Cannon, and takes down buildings faster than that weapon. In the Industrial Age, the Mortar is supplanted by the even more powerful Siege Mortar, which gives an attacking Inca player a very strong anti-building capability.

One final unit note - as is true with the Aztecs and the Maya , the Inca do not get the Crossbow unit, but Heavy Archers instead. Heavy Archers share similar uses, strengths, and weaknesses with Crossbows, but offer a truer rendering of Western Hemisphere combat in the days of antiquity.

The Inca are a good nation for a player with an eye on economic advancement, aiming to put a strong army in the field at the right time. Wealth bonuses can make an Inca player a very popular choice as a multi-player teammate, as well. Wealth is one of the more devilish Resources to maximize for almost every nation.
