Turks: The Power of Siege

The Power of Siege means that Turkish siege, artillery, and naval bombardment units have +3 added to their range and line of sight. Conquer cities as the Turks and assimilate them three times more quickly. Military research at the Library is 50% cheaper for the Turks. Clearly a martial nation, and a good choice for an aggressive mid-game player.

All of the Turkish unique military units appear in the Gunpowder (fourth) and Enlightenment (fifth) Ages, toward the middle of the eight Ages. The crafty Turk plans ahead for a major push in the Gunpowder Age, continuing into Enlightenment. The game cannot be won earlier or later as well, of course. But the wind is at the Turkish general's back in the fourth and fifth ages.

The first unique unit the Turk can recruit is the Janissary, which first appears in the Gunpowder Age, as a sort of upgraded version of the Arquebus available to other nations. Upgrade in the Enlightenment Age to the Royal Janissary, which replaces the Musketeer in your Barracks. Both units are faster, more effective in combat, and have better endurance (defensive strength) than their common peers. With cheaper Military technology research in the Turkish Library, odds are you will have these upgraded units sooner than anyone else has their Arquebuses and Musketeers.

Two additional units appear in the Enlightenment Age. The very potent Basilica Bombard, and its successor, the even more powerful Bombard Cannon replace the Bombard and Cannon in your Siege Factory. Each of them is stronger versus buildings and more accurate.
