This document describes alternative approaches to implementing multilingual Web sites with Microsoft® Content Management Server (MCMS) 2002. Localizing the MCMS 2002 Web Author Interface
Microsoft® Content Management Server (MCMS) 2002 includes the MCMS Web Author, a tool that allows multiple users with the appropriate MCMS rights to simultaneously create, update, and approve, and publish Web site content from the Web site itself, making it easy to keep even large Web sites updated with current information.
This paper describes how to localize the Web Author for ASP.NET-based sites by generating an assembly for each language, and localizing the site content in Microsoft Visual Studio® .NET. For ASP-based sites, this paper describes how to configure the MCMS Content Server to support authoring in multiple languages on the same server, and how to localize the necessary Web Author files.
Woodgrove International Sample Site
This document describes the WoodgroveInternational sample site for Microsoft© Content Manager Server (MCMS) 2002. This sample is intended for demonstration and evaluation purposes only.
The Woodgrove International sample site is a multilingual site for MCMS 2002. It is ASP.NET-based and written in the C# programming language. The sample site contains three methods for providing multilingual support in a MCMS 2002 Web site:
| • | Channel-based – The root channel of the site contains a localized sub-channel for each supported language. This is demonstrated in the language-specific channels in the HTMLDemo channel of the sample. |
| • | Template-based – The template contains one HTML placeholder control per supported language for each block of content. During page processing, the template uses the CultureInfo object and the UserLanguages property of the Request object to select the HTML placeholder to display. This is demonstrated in the TemplateBased channel of the sample. |
| • | Placeholder-based – The localized content is in a single record. During page processing, the XML placeholder uses the UserLanguages property of the Request object to select the content to display. This is demonstrated in the XMLDemo channel of the sample. |
