Mark Whittington serves as General Manager of Microsoft's Worldwide Public Safety and National Security business. The multi-billion dollar industry vertical is comprised of national security and intelligence, defense, criminal justice, police, fire, rescue and disaster response markets. In this role, Whittington is responsible for global strategy to better enable government, defense and public safety customers and partners to protect, prepare, prevent and respond to man-made and natural disasters, crime and terrorism. Working in close collaboration with senior leaders across the company's product teams, Whittington ensures that Microsoft delivers solutions which meet the specific needs of customers and partners.
With deep industry knowledge and expertise garnered through 19 years of experience with the United States Federal Government and over 11 years specific to national security, public safety and disaster response arenas globally, Whittington leads a highly experienced team with over 18 years per member on average of service in this industry.
Whittington joined Microsoft in 2007 to build and run the Homeland Security Services business in the United States. He was instrumental in executing one of the fastest growing services businesses and his teams have helped support and deliver some of the most mission critical solutions in securing the United States. Additionally he led the development and execution for disaster response strategies and protocols across Microsoft in partnership with the corporate disaster response team for the Haitian and Japanese earthquakes, Alabama tornados, Hurricanes Ike, Earl and Gustav, the H1N1 pandemic in Mexico City and numerous floods and fires. He also led the effort to build and incubate the Justice and Public Safety services business in the U.S. that is now extending its reach globally.
Before joining Microsoft, Whittington was the senior director of Homeland Security and Justice Services at Oracle, where he built and led a high-growth services business focused on driving strategic services alignment and solution deployment. His teams delivered multiple mission critical solutions across the industry from consolidated enforcement, intelligence analytics and targeting, to border security and integrated law enforcement.
An avid fly fisherman, cyclist, boater and Washington Capitals hockey fan, Whittington resides in Virginia with his wife and three sons and an English Labrador named Chester. He is a graduate of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia and member of multiple industry and philanthropic organizations.
