Microsoft for Government

Introducing Microsoft on Government Blog

14 September 2011 | Michele Bedford Thistle, Business Manager, Government, National Security, and International Organizations, Worldwide Public Sector

Spanning countries and cultures across the globe, information technology is the common language and platform of governance today. It empowers public sector organizations to collaborate and operate more effectively, increase efficiency and transparency, and to develop greater accountability to the citizen. However, technology, much like the world around us, is rapidly evolving. From Web 2.0 to cloud computing, government organizations are embracing this change in order to meet the challenges of tomorrow.

At Microsoft Worldwide Public Sector, we are in a constant dialogue with hundreds of public sector agencies, working closely with them to develop strategies for smarter and more cost effective uses of technology to help them deliver on their missions. These conversations are the inspiration for our new blog, Microsoft on Government, which we’re proud to announce officially launches today!

Our goal for this blog is to bring the conversation online to engage a broader community of international stakeholders in the public sector. By looking at what works in government, uncovering emerging trends, and debating strategies to tackling common public sector challenges—from cities to central governments—we hope to provide you with insights, inspiration, and new ways of looking at how to deliver smarter governance through technology. Here are just a few of the themes that Microsoft on Government will be focusing on in the months to come:

  • Promoting efficiency and transparency in government
  • Addressing IT security challenges and protecting citizen privacy
  • Promoting energy efficiency & sustainability
  • Developing a more connected and interoperable government
  • Developing workforce skills
  • Fostering local IT economies and expanding citizen access to technology
  • Expanding government’s accessibility and engagement with citizens
  • Advancing public infrastructure & transport

We hope you’ll stop by for regular updates from thought leaders in the worldwide public sector community, and we look forward to engaging you in the conversation. Do you have an idea that you’d like to share? Feel free to contact me directly at mthistle@microsoft.com. We’d love to hear your story, and possibly have it included as part of a future post.

Warm regards,

Michele Bedford Thistle
