Carlos Oliveira founded Shaping Cloud in 2010 with a vision for a software company born in the cloud, delivering agility and innovation for public-sector organisations. In less than four years, the company has grown into a prominent thought leader within the sector and was recently shortlisted for TechMarket View’s Little British Battler Award (http://tinyurl.com/om9sln3), which recognises the SMEs that are disrupting established markets. With a wide array of software products available on Government’s Cloud Store and a place on a number of other digital frameworks as well as being one of the first partners in Microsoft’s own CityNext program, the company is actively working with public-sector organisations to deliver on the Digital-By-Default and Cloud First agendas set forth by central government. Engagements with the likes of Manchester City Council, The University of Sheffield, and The United Nations have demonstrated how even the largest of these organisations can “Think Lean.”
Carlos has a passion for how cloud technology and in particular the Microsoft Azure platform can revolutionise many of the services that citizens engage with on a daily basis. He is a founder of the UK Azure User Group that has organised well over a hundred events over the past two years to help the development and business communities understand how they can transform their legacy infrastructure and software.
Prior to founding Shaping Cloud, Carlos was an associate director for UBS Investment Bank for two years. During his tenure at UBS, he was responsible for the development of UBS Global Prime Services client portal, a site used by thousands of hedge funds and investment houses around the globe on a daily basis. As the portal’s web architect, Carlos focused on key areas of security, scalability, and speed.
From 2006 to 2008, Carlos was Assistant Vice President at Merrill Lynch, where he was head of alternative investments e-commerce development. He developed and maintained a series of custom-built .NET web applications that helped enable monitoring, risk analysis, and reconciliation of data for the investment bank.
Before joining Merrill Lynch, Carlos spent two years with management consultants Accenture as a technical consultant. He worked on many projects including an industry-leading e-Commerce travel website developed using .NET, Microsoft Commerce Server, and SQL Server.
