Gary Wachowicz

Industry Managing Director, Worldwide Public Sector

Gary Wachowicz is the Industry Managing Director in the Worldwide Public Sector division at Microsoft Corp. Based on Gary’s extensive smart City, Government, technology, and leadership experience, he is responsible for the Microsoft Government Large & Regional area which includes Microsoft’s CityNext initiative. He provides global strategic support to government agencies by enabling these agencies to deliver on performance and economic development outcomes. Mr. Wachowicz works with Microsoft partners and their government customers to enable Microsoft based solutions, either on premise or the cloud, to optimize government agency operations and citizen services.

Mr. Wachowicz has spent his career enabling intelligence to be infused into the systems and processes that make the world work—into things no one would recognize as computers: cars, appliances, roadways, power grids, clothes, even natural systems such as agriculture and waterways.

Data is being captured today as never before. It reveals everything from large and systemic patterns—of global markets, workflows, national infrastructures and natural systems—to the location, temperature, security and condition of every item in a global supply chain.  Gary has partnered with several Local and Regional Governments to drive innovation by combining agency & external information (i.e. utilities, social medial, etc.) to improve city revenues, lower costs, and improve services.

Prior to joining the Microsoft team, Mr. Wachowicz was part of IBM and the Smarter Cities team, where he was responsible for the Pacific Region.  Mr. Wachowicz has a strong technical, data management, business intelligence, and business process background.  This experience and knowledge has been applied to create innovative solutions which improve economic and service outcomes and for Towns, Cities, and Regional Governments.  “I get great satisfaction driving local and regional government outcomes while improving the environment.” 

Mr. Wachowicz has been involved with the Washington Special Olympics since 2006 and is active in various local charities and K12 development.  Gary is a graduate of the Saint Mary’s College of California and resides in the Seattle Washington area.
