The County of Los Angeles ensures cost savings, modernization, and compliance with Office 365 deployment

Established in 1850 as one of California’s original counties, Los Angeles County has been rapidly growing for over 150 years with no end in sight. Today, it is the most populous county in the nation and covers more than 4,000 square miles, making it larger than many states in the U.S. With 88 cities to cover, LA County has more than 30 diverse departments that are dedicated to providing a range of services for citizens and infrastructure.

For many of these departments, including the county’s law enforcement, public safety, and health and human services groups, access to a seamless and effective communication system is essential. Yet, with sensitive data comes the need for additional safeguards. County frontline workers expect that their administrative and IT leadership has ensured that the systems all meet the important and complex compliance standards and regulations. This includes the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) requirements and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).   

Taking all of this into consideration, LA County has announced it is moving more than 100,000 users to Microsoft Office 365 for Government. With this deployment, which includes approximately 20,000 law enforcement personnel, all of the county’s departments can not only prioritize security but can also consolidate systems onto one platform, helping reduce operational costs and facilitate seamless collaboration among staff.

With the rollout of the solution beginning next month, LA County officials are also looking forward to the modernization that will come from a move to Office 365. For example, employees will now be able to access, input, and exchange important information while in the field, whether they are park-grounds workers, health practitioners, or inspection personnel. All line-of-business workers will benefit from the integrated and mobile tools that empower them to focus on serving citizens.
