Jean Pierre Elong Mbassi

Secretary General, United Cities and Local Governments Africa

Mr. Elong Mbassi has more than 30 years of experience in the fields of urban management, slum upgrading and local economic development.  Mr. Elong Mbassi is currently the Secretary General for the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLGA), the unified organization of African local governments, which is the African section of the world organization of United Cities and Local Governments (based in Morocco). Prior to his current post, Mr. Elong Mbassi served as the Coordinator and later the Secretary-General of the Municipal Development Partnership (MDP) for Western and Central Africa. In his early career, Mr. Elong Mbassi worked for the World Bank in Cameroon and the Agence Coopération et Aménagement in Paris. Mr. Elong Mbassi earned his Master's degree in Geography from the University of Yaoundé (Cameroon) and has received his PhD at the University of Caen (France).
