Earlier this month, Washington Secretary of State Sam Reed wrote a guest post for the Microsoft on the Issues Blog about his state’s partnership with Microsoft and Facebook to develop MyVote, a new application to be used to reach potential voters online and through social media.
MyVote, which can be found on the Washington State Elections Facebook Page as well as Washington’s Elections Division website, was launched on August 6th as a fresh way to use the power of social media and networking to encourage voters to take part in their government on Election Day. In his blog post, Secretary Reed discusses the need to engage millennial voters and get them to the polls this November. With the lowest voter participation rate among age sectors, Secretary Reed says he has made it a priority to seek ways to reach millennial voters through programs like MyVote, as well as through visits to 42 college campuses and working with campus leaders on civic engagement.
