Santa Claus is coming to town!

18 December 2012 | Jennifer Steele, Senior Marketing Manager, Worldwide Public Sector

You don’t need to wait to hear reindeer hooves to know whether or not Santa is in your town: on Christmas Eve, millions of families will use the Santa Tracker for real-time updates on the world’s most famous sleigh ride.

Since 1955, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and its predecessor, the Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD), have kept tabs on Santa throughout his one-night journey. This year, with nearly 25 million people expected to follow Santa’s journey via web, email and mobile devices (there’s even a Santa Tracker app!), new technologies have come together to support the ever-growing demand for up-to-date information – a true testament to the cloud scalability and bandwidth that public safety and national security organizations have come to depend on.

To learn more about how Microsoft technologies including Windows Azure and Bing Maps are making magic happen around the world on December 24th, check out this post by Curt Kolcun, Vice President of Microsoft Corp.’s U.S. Public Sector business. For additional information and the history of the NORAD Santa Tracker, visit this post by Capt. (U.S. Navy) Jeff Davis, Director of NORAD and U.S. Northern Command Public Affairs.

Happy holidays!
