Connected Health Platform
Healthcare EFS Tool
This guidance is suitable for healthcare organizations that wish to protect themselves against loss of data.
The Encrypting File System (EFS) provides a level of security to Windows XP Professional systems. EFS uses security certificates to encrypt and decrypt files transparently as a user accesses them from the hard disk. Encrypted files are protected even when an attacker has full access to the computer's data storage, for example, a laptop that has been stolen.
The Healthcare EFS Tool has been designed to make the use of EFS more consistent and easier to operate for a healthcare organization, allowing the organization to protect user data in a cost effective manner. The EFS Tool is targeted at the Windows XP (SP1 onwards) platform.
