As corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Worldwide Public Sector organization, Laura leads a team of more than 1,900 sales and marketing professionals serving government, education, and non-privatized healthcare customers in more than 100 countries. With over 20 years of experience working with government and policy makers, Laura drives Microsoft's efforts to partner with governments to provide innovative technology solutions; helping improve government operations, the delivery of services to citizens, expand the quality and reach of educational opportunities available to students, and grow local economies.
Prior to joining Microsoft, Laura served as senior vice president and general manager of Connected Energy Networks at Cisco, where she led the effort to use the network as the platform to transform how the world manages its energy and environmental challenges, building smart grid solutions for Utilities globally. She established and managed Cisco's Global Policy and Government Affairs division for 13 years and was responsible for developing Cisco's public policy agenda and advancing governmental policies in support of broadband and IP-based technologies.
While at Cisco, Laura was Chair of the Connected Women's Advisory Group and co-chair of Cisco's EcoBoard, which oversees Cisco's comprehensive sustainability strategy and guides its efforts using IT to address environmental concerns and climate change.
Laura began her career in international trade and government affairs for PricewaterhouseCoopers in Washington, D.C., and also held positions at Acer and Hitachi Data Systems. She currently serves on the board of Monsanto. She is the past chair of the board of the Information Technology Industry Council and has received numerous awards and recognition for her work in information and communications technology, sustainability, and gender diversity, including the Women Making History award from U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer.
Laura holds a bachelor's degree in international relations from the Woodrow Wilson School of Foreign Affairs at University of Virginia and studied Arabic at Yarmouk University in Jordan. She is also a Senior Fellow of the American Leadership Forum, Silicon Valley Chapter.
