All Microsoft Windows Vista products come on a holographic disc, commonly referred to as an edge-to-edge hologram DVD.

The anti-counterfeiting features are common across all versions of Windows Vista, although there will be slight variations in branding colors of the labels. The branding on the Ultimate disc is gray. The branding on the Business disc is blue. The branding on the Home Premium disc is green. The branding on the Home Basic disc is pale green.

Please note that the copper holographic DVDs introduced in early 2007 may not be included with all Microsoft Windows software available in your area. If your DVD is different from the one shown, refer to the Previous Versions page for details. Some products in this group may have different text on the DVD.

Shown below are specific features of edge-to-edge hologram DVDs.

Wavy Edge
Animate

Wavy Edge: Look for the area at the edge of the disc, where the copper color has a wavy effect.

Stereogram
Animate

Dynamic Stereogram: Each DVD has two stereograms, located on opposite sides of the surface. Each high resolution three-dimensional hologram is a circle with the Windows flag in the center. The Windows flag changes colors as the DVD is tilted. Surrounding the Windows flag is the text "VISTA Genuine."

Security Patch
Animate

Security Patch: Each DVD has two security patches, located on opposite sides of the surface. Within each, the word "Microsoft" changes to "GENUINE" as the DVD is tilted. The word "GENUINE" appears to cascade in from the top of the security patch. To the right of the text is the image of a globe with North America and the Atlantic Ocean visible. Three stripes run across the background of the security patch. Each stripe comprises the binary numbers 1 and 0, repeated.

Perimeter Hologram
Animate

Perimeter Hologram: The perimeter hologram shows vibrant color and 3D effects as the DVD is tilted. The words "Windows Vista" are repeated across the background. Note: The copper holographic material is embedded within the DVD. It is not a sticker. The face of the DVD is surrounded by a wavy edge.
