Internet Explorer 4.0 delivers the first privacy-enabled Web browser with support for the new W3C privacy standards. A new feature called Profile Assistant makes it easier to safely and efficiently manage your personal information while taking greater advantage of the information and services available on the Web.
How does it work? Internet Explorer 4.0's Profile Assistant gives you the option of providing personal information to Web sites and then assists you in managing what data is provided to or withheld from a particular site. Profile Assistant notifies you when a site requests data, and then you can decide whether or not to give the information to a particular site. You can also encrypt personal information exchanged through the Profile Assistant, both while the data is being stored locally and when it is being transmitted to Web sites.
