Casio India Co. Pvt. Ltd. (Casio) is a full subsidiary of Casio, Japan, and is involved in the marketing and distribution of Casio consumer products across India. Casio was using Tally as its primary accounting software for inventory and software. However, Tally was quite slow and didn't provide connectivity with remote locations, a problem that became acute when the central warehouse moved away from the head office. Casio evaluated a number of enterprise resource planning (ERP) options before choosing Microsoft Dynamics–Nav(now part of Microsoft Dynamics). The solution has achieved what Casio needed-connectivity with remote locations. In addition, reports that used to take almost a week to compile are now available instantaneously. Microsoft Navision now also links the export and import processes with the actual sales, thereby providing an integrated system.

| Situation |
 |
Casio India Co. Pvt. Ltd (Casio) is a full percent subsidiary of Casio, Japan. The company employs about 60 people, who are involved in the marketing and distribution across India of a wide range of Casio products such as watches, calculators, LCD projects, and cash registers.
The products come from Japan and then move from a central warehouse in Delhi to clearing and forwarding (C&F) agents in different parts of India. Dealers and retailers pick up these products from the C&F agents.
Initially, Casio was using Tally as its primary software for managing inventory and finance. "However, Tally didn’t offer remote connectivity, a major need once we moved our central warehouse away from the headquarters." explains Anil Chaudhry, Company Secretary, Casio India Co. Pvt. Ltd.
A number of solutions were evaluated from ICICI Infotech’s Orion, SAP, and others before Casio opted for Microsoft Dynamics–Nav. Says Chaudhry, "Navision was within our price range and had all the features we wanted at that time. Navision is a simple software that is user-friendly with really fast processes." |

An on-site team from Trisoft, a Microsoft Certified Gold Partner, worked on
the implementation and deployment. The first phase involved the integration of
the following modules:
• General Ledger
• Purchase and Payables
• Sales and Receivables
• Inventory
• Export Import (EXIM)
The sale of Casio products happens through the 20 or so distributors across the
country. This meant that the tax structures with value added tax (VAT)
provisions had to be modified based on the location of the distributor.
In addition, inventory had to be maintained for nearly 5,000 items, including
watches, calculators, electronic musical instruments, and so forth. Microsoft
Navision captured inventory valuation and sale reports were also available for
each individual dealer.
Since all the products are imported from Casio, Japan, the EXIM module captured
all the processes related to payment of custom duty.

| Benefits |
|
With Microsoft Navision, Casio is able to get an integrated view of its
systems and process. This has allowed the company to streamline its sales and
distribution processes, improve logistic operations, manage receivables, and
reduce dispatch lead time.
Improved Reporting
With the earlier system, compilation of reports for various divisions took
nearly a week. Now, "all the reports are available instantaneously without any
manual intervention. The financial accounting and inventory reports are really
helpful." says Chaudhry.
Remote Connectivity
Using a virtual private network (VPN) connection, Casio was able to link its
central warehouse directly with its headquarters. Consequently, details of
movement of consumer goods at the warehouse were immediately reflected in the
other modules.
Future Plans
In the next phase, Casio is looking to integrate its distributors into the
system with a commerce portal and a user portal. The plan is to have a system to
manage the workflow for the different entities.
