Microsoft Research India, based in Bangalore,
is Microsoft's third research facility outside
of the United States. The lab was inaugurated in
January, 2005, with the goal of pursuing
research in computer science, information
technology, and the social relevance of these
technologies. As with any Microsoft Research
lab, MSR India seeks to do world-class basic
research that contributes to the international
academic community and which makes an impact on
Microsoft's business and product groups. Within
India, the lab also supports the growth of
national and academic research programmes.
“India's growing international reputation for
excellence in computer-science research and
engineering make it a natural choice for the
newest Microsoft Research facility," says Rick
Rashid, senior vice president of Microsoft
Research. "The diversity of India's languages
and culture, its deep respect for education, and
its rich humanitarian tradition make India
uniquely suited for investigations into areas of
computing that can help the global community
gain better connectivity, promote literacy, and
define the technology experience for decades to
come."
We encourage applications from those interested
in doing advanced research in our focus areas.
