Customers are increasingly optimistic on the economic promises of cloud computing. The majority expects a new level of agility and a quicker ROI on their IT investments once they have moved to the cloud. Microsoft offers a valuable set of ready to use software services, including Microsoft CRM Online and Office 365 with SharePoint. This is being accompanied by the Windows Azure cloud platform that has many services and additional advantages to offer. One of the most important advantages is the ability to serve as the cloud-born infrastructure to integrate other Microsoft Online Services.

Solution

runtime has selected Connect Bridge, a Business-Critical SharePoint solution from Microsoft partner, Connecting Software to connect its Microsoft Dynamics CRM system with SharePoint to improve company-wide productivity. Connect Bridge offers simple interfaces to data in Microsoft systems and the ability to easily synchronize information and establish reliable and productive processes between them. It helps reduce integration time of Line-of-Business (LOB) systems with SharePoint by minimum 50%, decreases the number of bugs, and fast return-on-investment (ROI). With 4 hours of training any developer can become an integration specialist.

Building on Connect Bridge on Windows Azure, runtime has been able to create a platform that integrates Dynamics CRM Online with SharePoint Online. This platform overcomes several limitations of the standard integration mechanisms. For instance, each event in Dynamics CRM can trigger changes and additions to the SharePoint platform. A few examples include: creating lists and sites based on templates, exchanging document templates when an opportunity enters a new phase, extracting e-mail attachments based on size and type, and integrating document preview features. runtime’s solution, based on Connect Bridge, delivers a high off-the-shelf value to a customer’s implementation. This is done in a fashion that allows for integrated rights management and turns an opportunity-attached document store into a customer facing micro-portal that fosters collaboration with end-customers.

Automating Business Processes

Transferring documents automatically to SharePoint enables document previews (using SharePoint WebApps for instance) to further extend the use of Dynamics CRM. This helps with easily finding unstructured information around projects and customers based on both context and SharePoint search capabilities.

Improved Decision-Making

With the integration and automatic creation of OneNote Notebooks, users can collaborate on collecting more contextual information around their clients, contacts, and sales engagements. As a result, they can make more educated business decisions and improve their offerings.

Fast Deployment

Deployment does not require massive installation in either CRM or SharePoint as it integrates with both systems running on Windows Azure Worker-Roles. This gives the system almost 100% uptime and scalability while not adding performance penalties to CRM or SharePoint. Improving Productivity

The integration suite allows customers to selectively take project relevant documents with them, instead of all the documents. It also allows for the extension of business rules into the SharePoint document space and for the synchronization of CRM data into customer portals and vice versa. E-Mail attachments can be automatically moved to SharePoint based on their file sizes, blacklisting certain attachment types and inline content like signatures, and not lose the simplicity of an attachment in CRM. Eilers continues, “This has widely been possible because Connect Bridge makes all of the target systems addressable through SQL Statements. That is not only as simple as it will get, hiding complexity, it also allows us to easily add parameterization and make the behavior very adaptable to our customer’s needs.”
