Intersentia Boosts Productivity by Saving 1500 Hours Annually with Windows® 7
Belgium-based Intersentia is an independent publishing house that specializes in text books for academics and professionals in European and International law, human rights, finance, and accounting. Like many businesses, the greatest challenge facing Intersentia was increasing productivity while keeping costs down. Intersentia saw this as an opportunity to find faster, more efficient technologies that would continue to position them as the leading provider of high-quality publishing services. When the company deployed the Windows® 7 Professional operating system, it was able to capitalize on that opportunity. Since Windows 7 is a fast, easy-to-use, and stabler system, the company was able to speed up everyday tasks and facilitate greater productivity, keeping the company and its customers ahead of the competition.
Intersentia needed to find a way to reduce costly idle time by speeding up everyday business tasks. Simply starting up and resuming PCs took several minutes, and locating commonly used files amidst the dozens the company could be working on at any time was time-consuming and frustrating.

For companies like Intersentia, which rely on technology, a system crash causes a major loss in productivity. Employees at Intersentia often had to deal with systems crashing, and would then have to reboot their PCs and wait several minutes for them to become available again.
The company wanted to find a way to significantly improve its core business processes and enable its employees to get more done with an efficient, reliable system that wouldn’t put any undue pressure on already tight margins.

Streamlining Routine Tasks
With faster start-ups and resumes, users no longer have to wait for their systems to respond before being able to work on essential business tasks. According to Ewout Lacroix, Product Manager at Intersentia, this feature alone helps him save significant amount of time. “I hate slow machines, so I used to use sleep mode with my older system just to avoid having to wait for start-ups. But that wasn’t an ideal solution, because it consumed a lot of energy. With Windows 7, I don’t need to worry about that. My machine just starts up and shuts down in seconds, saving me fifteen to twenty minutes every day while also helping me to reduce energy costs.”
The new Aero® desktop personalization offers a host of intuitive, time-saving features, including “snap,” which enables users to view windows side-by-side. “I compare documents all the time. So having to manually adjust each window to make it the right size – like I did with previous systems – would take around 80 percent longer compared to just having to snap the windows,” says Lacroix. “But the snap feature in Windows 7 is a fantastic improvement and so easy to use. It saves me several minutes a day.”
Lacroix is equally enthusiastic about Jump Lists, a feature which allows users to see recently accessed files simply by right clicking the mouse on the taskbar icon. “Jump Lists is possibly the best feature of Windows 7,” he says. “Being able to see all of your windows right there and then [being able to] immediately go to the right one is incredibly useful. Simply put, it makes my life easier.”
The Action Center feature included with Windows 7 consolidates alerts from across the system, including Security Center and Windows Defender, so users no longer have to contend with competing pop-ups or determine which ones need urgent attention. This feature not only reduces interruptions to workflow, but also helps users diagnose and solve simple IT issues quickly and easily.
According to Lacroix, this feature greatly enhances productivity. “Action Center not only diminishes the amount of pop-ups I have to deal with, but also helps me solve problems instantly with easy-to-use diagnostics tools.” he says.
For laptop users, having reliable, long-lasting battery life is critical to performing tasks while on the go. The Windows 7 Power Management feature helps to reduce energy consumption by adjusting display brightness and shutting off applications that aren’t in use, so users can use their systems for hours at a time without worrying about finding a power outlet.
“Power Management makes a huge difference in terms of being able to get more done on the go or even when having to attend or present for in-office meetings,” says Lacroix. “The screen automatically adjusts to cut down on power and the machine lasts at least 30 minutes longer than with previous systems. Even better, I know I’m saving on energy costs because of this intuitive design.”

Lacroix points out that Windows 7 presents more opportunities for Intersentia to expend its business. Not only do users save time with this system, they can also develop innovative new business strategies in unexpected ways.
“You know, we create software as well,” Lacroix says. “And Problem Steps Recorder could play a very important role in helping us develop training manuals in the future. Our systems have been so reliable, we haven’t had to use it for solving problems, but this feature does a lot more than that. We’ll just have to wait and see where else we can go with this and other Windows 7 capabilities.”
For companies looking to upgrade their systems to boost efficiency and increase stability, Steve Ballmer, Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft® has this advice: “Windows Vista® is good. Windows 7 is Windows Vista with cleanup in user interface and improvements in performance. Look, I’m not encouraging anybody to wait,” he says. “I’d go ahead and deploy it right away.”
Lacroix agrees. “Windows 7 does what a good operating system should do. I liked Windows XP for speed and Windows Vista for its looks and ease of use. But Windows 7 combines both. I am sure this system will continue to enhance productivity for my business, and that’s why I am upgrading all of my machines to this operating system.”
