piyush : Windows Vista provides you best eye candy features, but with that it provides you many tools
to increase your productivity
shantanu[EXPERT]:
if you are a security analyst then there are things like TPM which is included with bit-locker drive encryption
shantanu[EXPERT]:
more over Windows Vista provides you better connectivity to the internet which will be for sure will come common in few dayz in form of Ipv6
shantanu[EXPERT]:

facelessman:
hi shantanu
shantanu[EXPERT]:
hi there
facelessman:
what do you think is like a breakthrough change that has come in Vista over the Windows XP
Ashish:
Hi abhishek
shantanu[EXPERT]:
please ask your question all are in que..
shantanu[EXPERT]: @facelessman : if i say compare windows Xp to vista there are endless features that can be told. but
shantanu[EXPERT]:
with af ew to say i have better productivity, better connected and more safer
shantanu[EXPERT]:
now ; you have windows photogallery
shantanu[EXPERT]:
for better viewing and editing your images
rayraven:
how exactly is it more productive, better connected and more safe?
rayraven:
i mean u gotta use third party apps for work
rayraven:
and they are pretty much same afaik
Ashish:
I am a user interaction specialist, and have been using windows vista
since March this year. I am quite bothered by the User Account Control.
If I am logged in as an admin, why does UAC still pop up again and again?
shantanu[EXPERT]:
with eyecandy features like aero, flip and flip 3d the work is gone too easy
shantanu[EXPERT]:
you have UAC (user account control)
shantanu[EXPERT]:
that makes it almost impossible to penetrate into system files
rayraven:
what? eyecandy increases productivity? funniest thing i heard all day
shantanu[EXPERT]:
ALL QUESTION WILL BE INLINE ; thank you
Abhishek Baxi (Expert):
Shantanu is catching up on existing questions, please wait for answers to your questions.
shantanu[EXPERT]:
Windows Vista comes with almost all features realted to your personal life, business, your kids, better gaming support and needs
shantanu[EXPERT]:
Directx 10 , and 64 bit platform gives you a boost in gaming
shantanu[EXPERT]:
Windows games explorer gives you a better idea for what games you have and what age it is recommended for
shantanu[EXPERT]:
Windows VIsta comes with instant search, windwos defender and more over better networking features
shantanu[EXPERT]: @rayraven :
shantanu[EXPERT]:
if i speak of a platform i say it is meant and built for the ease of the user
shantanu[EXPERT]:
its more safer : by the usage of windows defender (as integrated)
shantanu[EXPERT]:
Bit-locker drive encryption (which gives you a safer envoirment with your files secured )
shantanu[EXPERT]: @ashish : UAC (user accoutn control)
shantanu[EXPERT]:
is there for your own safety
shantanu[EXPERT]:
as loggin in as admin too it pops in just to save you from any security threats
shantanu[EXPERT]:
more over ; UAC is built as to protect your system root drive by any insigned and inidentified access
shantanu[EXPERT]: you can always store your most confidential documents without any threat
Ashish:
well, it isn;t pretty useful to an admin, simply because it asks for a confirmation to run a program. As a sysadmin, i will always do that unless something warns me about a malicious threat. for non-admin users, i agree that this is a worthy feature.
Ashish:
for admin level users, they will either disable it and get used to the security warning...or get used to hitting continue without looking
shantanu[EXPERT]:
well ashish : its not only you but many user think that UAC annoys
shantanu[EXPERT]:
but with that it gives you so much security... ( if you have some suggestions on UAC please send them so that i can forward it to Microsoft )
Ashish:
my suggestions are follows: 1. for non-admin level users, this is a worthy feature. Should be continued and made stronger. I am not aware if UAC logs are maintained, but they should be
shantanu[EXPERT]: thanks ashish for the suggestions.. i will make a note of it and forward it to Microsoft
Ashish:
2. for admin level users, UAC should not be applicable directly, unless a threat is detected in the program being installed, that the admin needs to know of. A simple warning tellin the users that somethin is being installed is always annoying
shantanu[EXPERT]:
you can continue asking anything you like now
Ashish:
add some info that is more indicative.
shantanu[EXPERT]:
Suggestions are welcome.. :
Ashish: Q. There is a Windows Vista rating that is given to every PC based on its hardware. My laptop was initially rated at 3.1, now it is at 3.0! Could you elaborate on what the rating signifies?
shantanu[EXPERT]:
yes sure :
shantanu[EXPERT]: windows vista uses the hardware provided to it at its best
shantanu[EXPERT]: so it comes with a windows experience index
shantanu[EXPERT]:
Windwos experience index tells you that till what index you can purchase software for your hardwrae
shantanu[EXPERT]:
the software now-adayz comes and will come in future with the rating as 1.0 or 2.0 or anything between 1.0 to 5.9
shantanu[EXPERT]:
now for your chaged rating
shantanu[EXPERT]: the WII : can have a chage by a little drives update or changing a bit of hardware
shantanu[EXPERT]: as : you have a onboard GFx adapter
shantanu[EXPERT]: you update its drivers, the rating may go down or may rise up according to the drivers make and how its is unified
shantanu[EXPERT]:
The windows Experience index is calulated by the least index given to your system for a particular category in CPU , RAM , GFX gaming and 3d and HDD etc
shantanu[EXPERT]:
questions are welcome :
facelessman: ok i need to leave...thanks shantanu!
shantanu[EXPERT]:
thanks foryour visit
facelessman: wil drop by again some time.
M_Rajesh_[Expert]:
Answer to Mayank regarding SP3: Regarding SP3, there is no official
announcement from Microsoft and you will have to wait for the future
to see if Microsoft makes any announcement.
facelessman: Abbye
AstroUtkarsh: Good Afternoon Everybody
shantanu[EXPERT]:
hi
AstroUtkarsh: ”the software now-adayz comes and will come in future with the rating as 1.0 or 2.0 or anything between 1.0 to 5.9 „ in what sense?
AstroUtkarsh: are thse for Windows only?
shantanu[EXPERT]:
A: > the software will be rated as per hardware and resource requirnments ! if the software is rated 5.9 then it is more resource hungry
shantanu[EXPERT]: and needs a windwos vista based computer with 5.9 rating..
AstroUtkarsh: ok
AstroUtkarsh: i mean, are these from MS or third party?
shantanu[EXPERT]: and like that it implies for other ratings too
shantanu[EXPERT]:
the softwares can be from any company
AstroUtkarsh:
ok
shantanu[EXPERT]: can be from microsoft or third party.. but ratings are valid for only windows vista or later versions
AstroUtkarsh:
5.9 is the Max Rating?
AstroUtkarsh:
k
shantanu[EXPERT]:
till now 5.9 is the highest ratig..
shantanu[EXPERT]:
it will rise with the coming hardware and time
AstroUtkarsh:
ok, thankx
shantanu[EXPERT]:
you can ask any question you want .. :
vasudev: Does that mean those rated s/w are only suited for Vista? Will not run on other Windows version? or its just an indication of compatibilty with Vista?
shantanu[EXPERT]:
A:> no its not that.., they will run for sure on other versions of windows too, but to run on vista the ratings should meet or else there can be performance glitches
shantanu[EXPERT]:
yeah its just indication of compatiblity with windows vista
vasudev:
that means a s/w rated 5.9 will run better on XP than a Vista System rated 2 or 3 or lower than 5.9?
shantanu[EXPERT]:
no this can't be stated like this
shantanu[EXPERT]: a software rated 5.9 for vista will run equally good on XP and vista if the requirments are met
shantanu[EXPERT]:
if a software is provided with a 5.9 rating for vista.. then it means the hardware requirments are very high,,
shantanu[EXPERT]:
it means that the hardware wanted will act in a same way on vista and xp, if you dont have that rated computer , the software will give glitches on xp as well.. thanks
vasudev: thanks shantanu
shantanu[EXPERT]:
my pleasure
shantanu[EXPERT]:
