Kumar: So...
Kevin_MS : (DotNETKans) I think we can register for DevDays2004 up to the end of April. But after 17th April, it will cost 3K. Is that true?
Kumar: yes
Kumar: that's correct
Kumar: That's the Early bird offer
Kumar: that ends on April 16th
Kevin_MS: (Srini) why is MS not planning for devdays in Hyderabad?
Kumar: Well... we have to short list a lot of cities... and currently, we planned for two
Kumar: So, Mumbai and Bangalore are the ones...
Kumar: but you think there is enough enthusiasm for the event in Hyderabad? Or for that matter
Kumar: in any other city?
Kevin_MS: (Saran) How do we register for DevDays2004?
Kumar: Hmm...
Kumar: You can do so by visiting the
Kumar: http://www.microsoft.com/india/msdn/devdays/
Kumar: The registration form is available for download from there.
Kevin_MS : (DotNETKans) Can you tell me up to what extent participants will be benefited?
Kumar: Good question.
Kumar: DevDays 2004 is will be introducing two of the upcoming technologies
Kumar: Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, which carrier .NET Framework 2.0
Kumar: and Microsoft SQL Serve 2005
Kumar: There will be core sessions that will be discussing what's new in the
Kumar: VS 2005, .NET Framework
Kumar: ASP.NET
Kumar: How SQL Server integrates with CLR... writing stored procedures in C#
Kumar: and much more.
Kumar: Plus we just don't talk about them.
Kumar: We will be having hands on labs
Kumar: where the attendees will be able to use and experience these technologies
Kumar: At the end of the day. You will have a hardcore technical preview
Kumar: of where Microsoft's premier dev tools and DBMS are headed
Kumar: and how you can identify current dev. scenarios
Kumar: and put them to use
Kumar: (DoNETKans) Sequel 2005 has been created from scratch or enhanced on top of Sequel 2k?
Kumar: Well.. its been built over the same SQL 2000 architecture..
Kumar: but with lots of enhancements
Kumar: where the SQL Kernel and CLR get to talk with one another
Kumar: for a highly
Kumar: integrated scenario for using managed code in the DBMS
Kumar: (Srini) but the time for each session is 1.5 hrs + 1.5hrs hands on. Is it not too short for something as big as Yukon and Whidbey?
Kumar: Well... in the 75mins of each session
Kumar: we are previewing and introducing the devs to what's coming up...
Kumar: help them identify how the upcoming versions of these two apps will help them be more productive
Kumar: Before delving deeper into any technology
Kumar: one should be able to identify the benefits of the same
Kumar: and this is what DevDays 2004 will do and where appropriate
Kumar: will dive inside and show u show it works!
Kumar: (DotNETKans) Will MS give each participant beta CDs?
Kumar: Well.. Incase you are a MSDN Universal subscriber
Kumar: you stand chance to get the VS 2005 Tech Preview
Kumar: DVD
Kumar: Well... any other questions?
Kumar: BTW, the agenda for DevDays 2004 is
http://www.microsoft.com/india/msdn/devdays/agenda.aspx
Kumar: That's where you can get to know what we are going to introduce you too..
Kumar: (Srini) Now everyone is talking of Longhorn , but its not included in the agenda?
Kumar: Everyone? Which everyone; we introduced Longhorn to have the dev a glimpse of where future of the OS and Managed code is headed
Kumar: But it's still under development
Kumar: and before that... we have VS 2005 and SQL 2005 coming up..
Kumar: and the Devs need to understand these technologies better n order to
Kumar: prepare themselves for Longhorn
Kumar: (DotNETKans) When SQL and VS 2005 will be released? Any tentative date/month of 2005?
Kumar: Possibly by the end of second quarter... but no confirmed dates yet
Kumar: (DotNETKans) Yukon will work on 64 bit also. is that true?
Kumar: 64bit Yukon will come when Framework 64 bit
Kumar: is released
Kumar: This is when VS 2005 comes out
Kumar: (DotNETKans) In VS2005 -- what additional MS is providing that in VS2003?
Kumar: How about 64bit version of the framework?
Kumar: Does that help?
Kumar: Apart from this,
Kumar: lots of other apps
Kumar: like Whitehorse
Kumar: Enhanced VSS that now crosses Firewalls and works
Kumar: across them
Kumar: Better Designers
Kumar: Built-in support for building SQL 205 projects
Kumar: 2005
Kumar: (Srini) Still we use VSS 6.0. Is MS coming with a newer version of VSS?
Kumar: Yes... and much - much improved version
Kumar: Of course... framework has a tons of support..
Kumar: like IrDA for compact devices
Kumar: That's all?
Kumar: We have got new security enhancements
Kumar: that we are talking about...
Kumar: (Srini) can I access a VSS from anywhere in the world?
Kumar: Yes... using third party products
Kumar: like SourceOffiste
Kumar: that's build upon the API of VSS
Kumar: u can.
Kumar: But with the upcoming VSS version
Kumar: there will be built in support for such accesses
Kumar: and thus, no need for third party products
Kumar: Well... DevDays is on 3rd May at Mumbai
Kumar: and 5th May at Bangalore
Kumar: Get to witness the upcoming technologies from MS
Kumar: and see how
Kumar: you as a dev can create themed webs
Kumar: without much effort
Kumar: Get to know how compilers have been enhanced to reduce
Kumar: your coding
Kumar: how Generics allow you to
Kumar: write type safe template code
Kumar: and tons more!
Kumar: So... we look forward to seeing you there!
Kumar: Excellent...
Kumar: then see you at DevDays 2004
