IDRBT reduces time and cost
of deploying intranet and workflow applications with .NET
Profile
The Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology
(IDRBT) is an autonomous center for development and research
in banking technology. Located in Hyderabad, the institute
was established by the Reserve Bank of India in 1996. The
mission of the institute is to spearhead the absorption of
technology in order to improve the functioning of the Banking
and Financial sector in India.
Customer Situation
There was a growing need for re-skilling and retooling
Public Sector bank employees, to improve their functioning
in a technology driven industry. With this in mind,
the institute realized that a corporate intranet and
e-mail would be the perfect starting point to drive
technology absorption in the organization. |
Our
goal has been to ensure sustainable technology
absorption in the Indian Financial Industry and
I believe corporate intranet and e-mail are appropriate
vehicles for information sharing, knowledge management,
and marketing of Information Technology within
the enterprise.

Solution
The institute mandated the design and implementation
of a corporate intranet, IDBRTNET, based on Microsoft's
.NET technology.
The intranet is based on a three-tier model and has
various workflow application modules that enable training
institutes to setup the enterprise intranet in a very
short period of time.
The work-flow application modules are populated with
information needed for daily operations, thus ensuring
regular visits to the intranet and imbibing intranet
as a way-of-life. |
Benefits
In a short span of six months, IDRBT was able to reduce time-to-market
and improve Return on Investment. The application implementation
time has also been greatly reduced. IDRBT further enabled
role-based security levels and provided for plugging in existing
legacy applications.
All MIS reports can be generated in HTML and also made available
in XML formats. These XML based reports can be used to modify
other applications. |
