.NET ERP solution
Profile
Allergan India Pvt. Ltd. is a leading player in the Ophthalmic
Pharmaceuticals and Intraocular Lenses market. The company
manufactures its pharmaceutical products in India and sources
products for its surgical division from a wide range of global
and local suppliers. These products are distributed and retailed
through its country-wide network of Carrying and Forwarding
Agents (CFAs).
Customer Situation
Allergan's legacy application was an off-the-shelf
Business Management software, developed using Oracle
Forms, deployed at their Head Office. The CFAs in turn
had local installations of the software running at their
depots. Data moved between the two systems in an asynchronous
manner and Allergan found it difficult to obtain an
integrated view of the business, drive process standardization,
and respond to customer queries in real-time.
To address the concerns with the Oracle Forms based
system, Allergan partnered with MindTree Consulting,
a Microsoft Certified Partner, to design and develop
a web-enabled customized ERP system that would result
in cost, time and process efficiency. |
The solution has become the backbone of our sales
and supply chain operations, contributing significant

Solution
Leveraging the .NET framework, MindTree was able to
streamline Allergan's supplier transactions.
The development team kicked off the project by building
a brand new data-layer based on SQL Server 2000. Scripts
enabling data migration from Oracle to the SQL Server
database were written.
ASP.NET was employed to create a fast web accessible
user interface.
With the overall solution having a small CPU and memory
utilization footprint, Allergan was able to achieve
the desired results with a lower than projected hardware
investment. The usage of the .NET architecture is now
helping MindTree in extending the solution to other
divisions within Allergan in a shorter time span through
reuse and extendibility. |
Benefits
By eliminating many manual processes and bringing all the
CFAs onto one single platform, Allergan's new Microsoft .NET
based customized ERP system has streamlined business processes,
increased operational efficiencies through errorfree automation
and improved communication between suppliers and customers.
The new system's built-in exception-based logic automatically
catches discrepancies and anomalies.
The sales team now has access to ledger information in real-time,
and is empowered with customer and product information at
its fingertips.
Given the benefits that they can quantify, Allergan expects
the system to pay for itself within two years. The system
is adding to the productivity of the company in many more
ways.
