Rallis India increases sales,
reduces costs, improves customer service, and gains a competitive
edge through .NET.
Profile
Rallis India Limited, a TATA enterprise, is the leading provider
of Agro-chemicals to the Indian market. It is the largest
producer of pesticides and one of the largest marketers and
distributors of seeds and specialty fertilizers. Rallis has
a vast distribution network that reaches out to 80% of India's
districts. This network provides Rallis India with a competitive
edge over other emerging MNCs.
Customer Situation
Rallis India Ltd. was using a FoxPro DOS based system
to capture sales information from 40+ locations on a
daily basis. However, this information would be assembled
at the Head Office only once a month. As a result, the
information could not be used for proactive and corrective
decision-making.
The challenge was to provide a mechanism to centrally
gather data at the Head Office at a better frequency,
validate the data, and process reports. The need of
the hour was to have actionable information that could
be used to improve business at all levels and have an
integrated interface for inventory management, accounting,
and sales. |
The
Rallis personnel really understood the value of
Saraansh when a strike was staged in Mumbai. All
modes of transport were shut down. All businesses
were closed in Mumbai. Nonetheless, the personnel
received relevant and accurate business information,
automatically, via SMS throughout the day.

From
a system development standpoint, Visual Studio
.NET was really useful in designing and developing
a quick and stable product within the delivery
deadline. In addition, choosing the right technology
for the right component also helped us build a
flexible product, which could manage Legacy Integration,
Business Intelligence, and Mobility Integration
effectively.

Solution
Project Saraansh was initiated. The objective of the
project was to deploy technologies that would integrate
with existing legacy applications, leverage available
data effectively, and disseminate actionable information
quickly. The other objectives included minimum IT investment,
reduction in expenses, better control over outstanding,
and reduction in inventory by at least 5%.
According to Vikas Gadre, CIO, Rallis India, “We wanted
to simulate a Newspaper-Office environment, where the
entire pipeline of information and dataflow - from the
base data entry to the information execution stage is
crunched into a 24 hour time-frame. Additionally, the
information had to be such that it could be accessed
anytime, just like a newspaper.”
Performance, scalability, and reliability were essential,
and time-to-market was critical with only 90 days left
for the project to be operational. |
Benefits
Rallis India monitored increased sales, reduced costs, and
improved customer service.
The solution presents relevant information such as the top
ten lists of distributors, retailers, productspecific drill-down
options to the sales force. Data of such nature provides the
team with a significant competitive edge and wins can be facilitated
without any bureaucratic, and time-consuming processes whatsoever.
Managers have immediate access to corresponding data on gross
contributions per sales person, or per product within any
geography. It is possible to perform a cost benefit analysis
taking into account the varied parameters and scenarios.
Operationally, Saraansh has been able to reduce dealer outstanding
and sales-related expenses, improve planning and timely management
of expectations, increase team efficiency and enhance accountability,
reduce communication costs and orchestrate vast cultural changes
across the organization.
