Effective coordination, decrease
in wastage, increase in efficiency at Nashik Glass Works through
.NET.
Profile
Nashik Glass Works (NGW) manufactures and markets high quality
glass containers. Their state-of-the-art manufacturing plant
in Nashik was setup in technical collaboration with Vetropack,
Switzerland. The containers are used for soft drinks, processed
foods, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, liquor and beer.
Customer Situation
Nashik Glass Works did not have a system that could efficiently
manage co-ordination among production lines in Nashik , the
sales department in Mumbai, and allied departments like Moulds
Shop, QC, Furnace, etc.
Nashik Glass Works wanted to implement a system that could
balance and optimize the use of capacity, material, and labor.

The architecture adopted is totally object-oriented
and makes use of core .NET framework classes.
By using built-in features of .NET framework such
as ADO.NET with XML support, built-in Crystal
Reports, .NET framework drawing classes, etc.
we were able to bring down development time by
as much as 15-20%.

Solution
A comprehensive system was developed on .NET. The system
includes two main components: Production Planning and
Control (PPC) and Statistical Quality Control (SQC).
PPC enables production planners to balance and optimize
the use of capacity, materials, and labor.
The SQC module facilitates online analysis of defects,
which are detected by an inspection machine installed
on the production line. The system also maintains historical
data and generates various reports for audit trails
and trend analysis. |
Benefits
The Production Planning and Control (PPC) module increased
the plant efficiency by 2-3%.
By enabling smooth and effective coordination and communication
among the manufacturing, marketing and allied departments,
the system helped the production planners to balance and optimize
the use of capacity, materials and labor.
The Statistical Quality Control (SQC) module helped in reducing
manufacturing wastage from 6% to 3%. For Nashik Glass Works,
this translated to enhanced efficiency and greater profitability.
