Teams

Office Communicator Phone Edition (OCPE)

The Office Communicator Phone Edition (OCPE) team focuses on designing and developing the software for Microsoft’s Voice-over-IP deskphone. This next generation phone supports up-to-date contacts information with presence and availability, directory search, unified call log, enterprise telephony features, and visual voice mail, all with an intuitive and rich user interface.

OCPE, in conjunction with Microsoft Office Communication Server, is designed to address the following user pain areas:

  • Communications chaos
  • Phone tag, voice mail jail, e-mail overload
  • Too many devices, too little time
  • Complexity of using advanced enterprise telephony features

Office Communicator Mobile

Office Communicator Mobile (CoMo) is a class of UC applications developed for different mobile platforms. CoMo extends the reach of Microsoft UC solutions to the information worker on the move thereby making presence aware comunication truly ubiquitous.

CoMo 1.0 was the first enterprise grade communications software for the mobile device, integrating presence, search and VoIP on Windows Mobile devices for the enterprise segment. This was followed by CoMo 2.0 for Windows Mobile devices, which improved the 1.0 feature set and performance.

Subsequently, the MSIDC UC products team started working on CoMo Java Edition to address feature phones, which form the majority of devices used by information workers. This solution is a combination of a JME-based thin client and a mobility server that provides optimized mobile access to UC features such as contacts, presence, directory search, instant messaging, and voice call control.

CoMo for S60 addresses the most popular smartphone platform, the Nokia S60. This application will provide UC features integrated with phone functions like contacts and messaging, and will support Voice over Wireless LAN. Communicator clients for other popular smartphone platforms are in the works.
