Virtualization |
Virtualization makes it possible to run multiple legacy operating systems on a single computer with a new Windows Operating System. For example, Windows XP Mode is built using Virtual PC, which allows users of Windows 7 Professional and above to launch many older Windows XP productivity applications directly from their Windows 7 desktop and help small businesses using Windows XP applications move to Windows 7. This helps users to run legacy applications compatible only with the older OS on the new OS in a seamless manner. Users can also run their own private virtual machines allowing flexible computing (work and personal use) and consolidation of resources. The MSIDC Virtualization team has end-to-end engineering ownership of Microsoft’s flagship Virtualization products Microsoft Virtual Server and Microsoft Virtual PC and has made significant contributions to Hyper-V, Microsoft’s path-breaking server virtualization product released in 2008.
