Migrating to Windows 7 using P2V with MDT & Disk2VHD
Migrating to Windows 7 using P2V with MDT & Disk2VHD
12:00pm to 01:00pm
Sometimes it takes only a few users to block an entire site or machine collection from deployment of Windows 7 desktops - applications may suffer irreparable compatibility issues or the installation media does not exist. By combing the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) and Sysinternals Disk2VHD, we can now redeliver the blocking users' old desktops as fully-functional virtual machines within the new Windows 7 operating system environment - so they can keep any applications in the virtual machine preventing them from moving. Those applications are even available to users in the Windows 7 start menu. This lab will explain how to configure P2V Migration for Software Assurance using both MDT-based deployment and System Center Configuration Manager. We will use these tools to capture the old system as a VHD, install Virtual PC and configure it for use all as part of the process - all automatically and without using Windows XP Mode.

Welcome to Tech·Ed Architecture track. This is meant to be a foundation session for rest of the day/track. While we all talk about ‘Architecture’ the role played by an ‘Architect’ is super critical to the overall success of any initiative. Drawing parity to an Architect who designs a house, the outcome post construction is evident when onlookers vouch that an architect is definitely involved. Such should be the impact of an Architect. This session lays foundation by means of a role play (that involves Chief Architect, CIO, CFO & CEO) & brings out the need for an Architect to play the role of a visionary/strategist leading into execution. Architectural Considerations for Moving LOB Applications to Cloud
03:00pm to 04:00pm
Most enterprise customers are looking for ways to leverage cloud computing, including moving or migrating existing Line of Business (LOB) applications to the cloud. This session will outline various scenarios on whether certain set of LOB apps would be a good fit (or not a fit) for cloud computing. We will focus our discussion on key architectural considerations such as business drivers, costs/benefits analysis, information architecture, Application Architecture and SOA, Migration, Performance/Scalability, Deployment and Operations. We will then discuss a case study, i.e. how to apply these architectural considerations to a real-world project.

Architects in today's world have a really tough life. There are challenges in what the world perceives as architects and hence the expectations. There are so many technological changes that keep happening and solutions architects should keep pace "automatically". Architect can solve any problem. Architects need to bring value to business through technology. The world is losing patience and doesn’t have time. Everything needs to be done yesterday. Architects needs time and be able to slow things down before everything and self destructs. Can this be done? Or Do I need to look for a different job?

Day 1 – 23rd March, 2011
Time
Management: Sustained Growth
12:00pm to 01:00pm
Demystifying Growth and Real Choices
Demystifying Growth and Real Choices
12:00pm to 01:00pm
We grow old without a choice! - we 'grow up' through choices made, either deliberate or otherwise! Many of us, at different points in time, wonder "was this something I wanted for myself?" or "I should not have made this career move” or “I should have done this 5 years ago." and so on… For some of us growth is an unplanned, uncontrolled, situation-driven event, although we desire that deeply.
Most of us do grow. After every milestone that we reach, the standard question that arises in the mind is “What next?” While growth is one part of the story, sustaining that growth over a long term is quite another! The steam does run out quite early, for many people. The starting point for all this is the clear and correct understanding of what 'growth' really is. Is it more money or higher position or out of India posting or more people reporting into or working in a better technology or higher power or something else? Let's get a clear grasp of this before anything else through the first topic "Demystifying Growth and Real Choices".

Career/Life – Growth Planning
Career/Life – Growth Planning
02:00pm to 03:00pm
We have heard some people say, "I was clear of the goal, but there were too many issues on the way—I was confused and finally I had to settle for what I got!" while some others say, "my work life balance was messed up"...
Well, if we fail to plan, we actually plan to fail!
Career is just one part of life, albeit a critical part. We live our lives in one timeline and career planning is a part of overall life planning. We deliberate the key considerations in this context through the next topic "Career/Life—Growth Planning".

The Top - 5 Enablers for Sustained Growth
The Top - 5 Enablers for Sustained Growth
03:00pm to 04:00pm
Effective planning gives us just a blueprint. Travelling the journey requires different enablers at different stages. We have heard some people say, "I am not growing as much and as fast as I was in junior roles"; some others say, "I am stagnating - I don’t know why?" Sustained growth is founded on the principle "What got you here won’t get you there!"
Let’s deeply understand the key enablers at different rungs of the growth ladder through the next topic, "Top-5 Enablers for Sustained Growth".

Self Leadership
Self Leadership
04:15pm to 05:15pm
With a clear goal, a nice blueprint for the journey and armed with the right enablers we start the journey. One of the toughest truths to digest is, "we are our own worst enemy".
Conquering oneself, in terms of mindsets, thought patterns, habits is far more challenging than conquering the other hurdles that emerge, enroute the growth journey! Our strong mind rationalizes, resists, refuses, and rejects the much needed changes within oneself, from time to time, as we travel. We realize that "Leading oneself is tougher than leading others". We focus on this key aspect through the last topic "Self Leadership".

Well then this is just what you have been waiting for. With the availability of SQL Server Reporting Services SDK for PHP, it now enables PHP developers to easily create reports and integrate them in their web applications. If you have your data residing on MySQL, you can still leverage MS SQL server capabilities to build Business Intelligence solutions. This session also looks at leveraging your existing investments in MySQL and leveraging the Reporting and Analysis Services from MS SQL server to extract data out from your MySQL data store to build meaningful dashboards. It looks at how we can integrate SQL Reporting Services and use SSIS to harvest the data from MySQL. It also looks at how we can replicate or sync data between MS SQL Server and MySQL to be able to share the relevant data across these databases

Using Claims based authentication in SharePoint 2010
Using Claims based authentication in SharePoint 2010
12:00pm to 01:00pm
Claims provide an innovative approach for building applications that authenticate and authorize users. Imagine a world where you don't have to worry about authentication. Imagine instead that all requests to your application already include the information you need to make access control decisions and to personalize the application for the user. In this world, your applications can trust another system component to securely provide user information, such as the user's name or e-mail address, a manager's e-mail address, or even a purchasing authorization limit. The user's information always arrives in the same simple format, regardless of the authentication mechanism, whether it's Microsoft® Windows® integrated authentication, forms-based authentication in a Web browser, an X.509 client certificate, or something more exotic like a Facebook or a Windows Live ID. Even if someone in charge of your company's security policy changes how users authenticate, you still get the information, and it's always in the same format. This is the utopia of claims-based identity that SharePoint 2010 now supports. In this session we will demystify the jargon behind claims based authentication and walk thru a step by step process of setting it up in SharePoint 2010.

At the last minute, however, they pulled the plug on the client-side features of ASP.NET Ajax and transferred their efforts to better integration with jQuery and a promise to contribute to the open-source client-side library. Now, just over a year later, we see some of the fruits of their efforts in the form of the jQuery Templates plugin.
