Sometimes it takes only a few users to block an entire site or machine collection from deployment of Windows 7 desktops - applications may suffer irreparable compatibility issues or the installation media does not exist. By combing the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) and Sysinternals Disk2VHD, we can now redeliver the blocking users' old desktops as fully-functional virtual machines within the new Windows 7 operating system environment - so they can keep any applications in the virtual machine preventing them from moving. Those applications are even available to users in the Windows 7 start menu. This lab will explain how to configure P2V Migration for Software Assurance using both MDT-based deployment and System Center Configuration Manager. We will use these tools to capture the old system as a VHD, install Virtual PC and configure it for use all as part of the process - all automatically and without using Windows XP Mode.

Open Data Protocol is paving its way to becoming a main stream web protocol that enables interoperability. In today's hyper active web, more and more servers and systems are providing access to their data via OData, the open standard protocol for data exchange on the internet. In this session we will understand the relevance of oData in the larger context of data exchange on the web. In addition, we will learn how to use your .NET skills to consume that data from Silverlight, Web (jQuery) and Windows Phone. We will start by showing the very elegant .NET client solution for OData services, and quickly move into the different libraries available for each client platform to understand the unique features and constraints of each. Claims provide an innovative approach for building applications that authenticate and authorize users. Imagine a world where you don't have to worry about authentication. Imagine instead that all requests to your application already include the information you need to make access control decisions and to personalize the application for the user. In this world, your applications can trust another system component to securely provide user information, such as the user's name or e-mail address, a manager's e-mail address, or even a purchasing authorization limit. The user's information always arrives in the same simple format, regardless of the authentication mechanism, whether it's Microsoft® Windows® integrated authentication, forms-based authentication in a Web browser, an X.509 client certificate, or something more exotic like a Facebook or a Windows Live ID. The application (Aspire) is a performance management system for employees of L&T Infotech largely used during performance appraisal time with seasonal predictable peaks in demand. The application helps to establish, document, track and evaluate employees and business unit’s performance commitments for a financial year. Aspire is also used for performance evaluation and confirmation of new hires. Aspire was originally developed as a web site in .Net Framework 2.0. As a part of migration process, we have migrated it to .NET 4.0 and hosted it on Windows Azure, Microsoft’s cloud computing platform. Various platform features like Azure hosting, remote desktop, appfabric service bus, SQL Azure, Appfabric caching, Houston, OBA on Azure were used extensively. One of the features that the ASP.NET team had planned on introducing in the 4.0 release was client-side templates that worked with their ASP.NET Ajax library. At the last minute, however, they pulled the plug on the client-side features of ASP.NET Ajax and transferred their efforts to better integration with jQuery and a promise to contribute to the open-source client-side library.
