IVC Software Factory for ACORD standards
For a number of years Microsoft has had a keen interest in mapping .NET development technologies to the ACORD insurance standards to speed up development with the Property & Casualty and Life & Annuity standards. Microsoft has a long, vested history in the insurance space with its Insurance Value Chain (IVC) architecture helping connect partner products into larger solutions through ACORD Web services. While innovative and successful, the IVC architecture did not have a specific development asset to help jumpstart the partner integration scenarios with ACORD Web services and .NET. The Microsoft Insurance Industry team announced the IVC ACORD Software Factory at the ACORD conference in May. The ACORD Software Factory is an ACORD customized version of the Microsoft Patterns and Practices Web services software factory that jumpstarts ACORD development projects. All in all, Microsoft is extending its IVC architecture by releasing a very real and rich set of insurance software development assets to the community for immediate usage and continued joint innovation.

Mainframe migration
Whether you are developing new business solutions or maintaining current systems, you have to support the needs of a changing business. Today, this often involves mainframe modernization. Mainframe modernization benefits include significant cost savings, increased business agility, and improved supportability of your IT systems.

bulletThe Progressive Group case study: Gaining agility with SQL Server 2005 Progressive, with annual premiums of more than $14 billion (U.S. dollars), is one of the largest insurers of private automobiles in the United States. Its internally developed application for managing policies is at the very foundation of the company's operations. As the company prepared to replace its mainframe-based application-first deployed in 1979 and frequently updated over the years-it needed enterprise-grade technology that would scale and provide the flexibility to easily deploy new solutions.

bulletThe business value of legacy modernization white paper This paper provides rationale and guidance for developing a legacy modernization strategy. Read about the key choices and steps involved in creating a modernization strategy.

bulletMoving mainframe applications to Windows white paper Many organizations are seeking ways to escape from their legacy technology and platform. Learn about three options for addressing this challenge—preserving, translating, or rewriting—and find resources for further investigation.

bulletPLICO case study: Gaining performance data in minutes instead of hours United States-based Physicians Liability Insurance Company (PLICO) offers liability insurance for the healthcare industry in Oklahoma. After committing to a long-term growth plan, the company wanted to replace its existing IBM AS400-based administration system. Historically, executives needed the support of IT personnel to extract performance data from the system—waiting up to 24 hours for results.
