Celebrating Veteran's Day with Wounded Warriors
On November 11th, Microsoft and the NHL Washington Capitals, through the USO of Metropolitan Washington, hosted more than 50 Wounded Warriors and their families to see the Caps take on the New York Islanders at the Verizon Center. The Wounded Warriors were also treated to a pre-game reception, where they were honored and recognized for their service and courage.

At the game, the Washington Capitals announced the Courage Caps. The Courage Caps, presented by Microsoft, will raise funds to benefit the USO of Metropolitan Washington, a private, non-profit organization. You can get your Courage Caps and Courage T-shirts online at WashingtonCaps.com, at the Fan Gear store, and at stands at the Verizon Center throughout the 2009-2010 season.

Operation USO Care Package Day
The annual A Salute to Our Troops program kicked off November 9th with Operation USO Care Package Day. NHL's Washington Capitals players, including Clark, Knuble, Pothier, Poti, and Steckel, as well as Capitals majority owner Ted Leonsis, WTOP 103.5 FM, Federal News Radio 1500 AM, and the USO of Metropolitan Washington joined more than 100 volunteers from Microsoft and local technology partners to prepare care packages for troops serving overseas. The USO care packages included Microsoft Zune trial cards, prepaid international phone cards, sunscreen, travel size toiletries, lens wipe cloths, CDs, DVDs, playing cards, magazines, and personal messages of support from the donors and volunteers.

As part of the Operation USO Care Package Day program, the USO-Metro hospital services team brought the wounded warriors "Sled Dogs" team from Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center on an excursion to the Kettler Iceplex to participate in an ice hockey scrimmage.

Send a Salute
Twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year, the men and women of America's armed forces are at work around the world, maintaining our safety and security. They may be stationed in their own communities, or their missions may take them far from home and loved ones. Wherever they are, America's troops have stepped up to take on some of the toughest jobs around, and they earn our gratitude every day. We can help out by letting them know that they're in our thoughts and by thanking them for their dedication and service.
Whether it's a member of your own family, a friend, a fellow service member, or anyone who helps support the troops and their important work, let them know you appreciate them by submitting your story here.
