Microsoft Citizen Service Platform
Government agencies can build and deploy citizen service solutions based on standard Microsoft products with the Microsoft Citizen Service Platform.

Many government services are supplied at the local level. Your constituents expect a rapid response to their needs, and they want to conduct government business using the Internet. Unfortunately, limited funding and technology have for years hindered efforts to move citizen services online.

A practical and effective response to these challenges is to transform the way you do business through incremental steps that utilize existing investments—and, at the same time, provide a foundation for growth as new needs and initiatives arise.

The Microsoft Citizen Service Platform meets both objectives, helping your organization build and deploy modern solutions that are based on the familiar Microsoft products you use every day. The platform includes “building block” templates designed to meet a variety of government needs. Local governments are using the Citizen Service Platform today for:

  • Communications applications: Send and receive e-mail, manage calendars, communicate in real time, and more.
  • Search: Help agency staff and citizens find what they need on the desktop or the Internet.
  • Citizen portals: Provide links to Internet resources, search capabilities, and personalized information and services pages for citizens and agencies.
  • Interactive forms: Create forms that citizens and businesses can fill out and submit online.
  • Geographical information systems (GIS): Support cartographic (map-based) data entry, mapping and spatial querying, and map-based data and applications.
  • Intranet portals: Provide staff with an integrated view of information across an organization with single sign-on to Web-based applications.
  • Web spaces: Set up personalized Web pages where citizens can create and post their own content and create their own e-mail accounts.
  • Citizen contact centers (citizen relationship management): Deliver information and services through multiple channels, including phone, Web, e-mail, and instant messaging, that are integrated with case management.
  • Case management: Establish workflows to assess, plan, perform, monitor, and evaluate the options and services required by constituents in response to internal or external events.
  • Document and records management: Gather and feed documents and other media into collections, manage formatting and conversion, organize and maintain information, and manage user access and editing rights.

You can save time and money with the Citizen Service Platform, too:

  • Minimize training costs by utilizing familiar Microsoft products.
  • Build on your existing investments in Microsoft technologies.
  • Take advantage of an open and scalable platform.
  • Leverage the work of other government organizations around the world.

With the Microsoft Citizen Service Platform, you can address the increasing expectations of your citizens in a managed, controlled, and cost-effective way. Microsoft partners can provide additional, compatible applications that integrate easily with the Citizen Service Platform to meet more specialized or complex requirements.

If it’s vital to government, it’s mission critical to Microsoft.
