Standing-Room-Only EventOn January 29, a standing-room-only crowd of 300 customers, partners, analysts, press, and Microsoft employees gathered in Santa Clara, CA for the Microsoft Global High Tech Summit 2009 to share "big ideas" not only on how to weather the current economic storm, but how to actually thrive in it. Our theme, "Seize the Opportunity: Thriving in a Global Networked Economy", proved to be even more appropriate as the severe global economic downturn has reinforced the reality that enterprises and countries are indeed part of a single global networked economy. This was a summit of "big ideas" -- ideas coming from the high tech community itself that will help summit participants weather the economic storm and thrive in this global networked economy. Throughout the panel discussions and networking time, attendees expressed their plans to use this downturn to streamline their operations, channeling cost savings to fund investments that will help them innovate, become more agile and drive market share growth. Drew Gude, Director of High Tech & Electronics for Microsoft, expressed his hope that our attendees would take home at least one "big idea" identified during the summit to help them improve their business performance.
