Business Intelligence and Reporting

Updated: May 25, 2005

In a mobile society with a diverse customer base, retailers require daily or even real-time information to act on customer needs quickly.

Retailers can no longer gain business intelligence and capture information in monthly or weekly reports like they did ten—or even five—years ago. Today, customers' needs are not easily detectable, nor are sales peaks and dips so easily predictable.

With the reporting services feature in Microsoft SQL Server, retailers can gather real-time information and schedule reporting; they can also deliver portions of information to users so that they don't exceed corporate resources or users' time frames to analyze information.

The enhanced reporting solution also enables retailers to post results to a portal. The Microsoft "Six Sigma" solution supports this practice.

These solution programs include a set of templates to show users how to create reports for the Web, Web parts and services that allow users to integrate programs for the most accurate results, and best practices that offer suggestions for how a retailer or partner can deliver a quick reporting solution.

Office Solution Solution for Recruiting
The solution for recruiting aims to reduce a company's cost-per-hire metric, and at the same time, improve a company's ability to effectively hire workers.

It enables recruiters or hiring managers to automatically find a job candidate who holds specific skills, and it allows them to schedule the person automatically among teams of interviewers.

Using a Microsoft Office InfoPath 2003 form, the interviewer is guided through the interview process and can capture feedback.

The interviewer can then post findings to a centrally accessible SharePoint Portal Server Web site.

This solution is based on an InfoPath front end, and a Microsoft Exchange backend. In retail, it expands to include hiring applications and other required paperwork. Some forms use built-in Web Services; for example, applications use this feature for automating background checks. To populate human resource systems, backend processes are used.

Office Solution for Sarbanes-Oxley
The solution for Sarbanes-Oxley enables retailers to easily comply with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. It allows them to control processes and provide correct visibility into retail activities.

The solution encompasses document and information management, workflow automation, team collaboration, and summary reporting—all in one package. Using core Microsoft technologies and world-class partners, this solution is affordable because it uses the company's existing software investments. It is easy-to-deploy, familiar to users, and adaptable to retailers' changing needs.

Office Solution for Proposals
The solution for proposals equips retailers with the tools required to create more compelling, accurate, and compliant proposals and responses to proposals. Through a streamlined proposal development process, companies can reduce proposal development costs. This solution shows a company how to more effectively deploy resources for proposal creation, follow up, and resolution. Company revenues will increase after adoption as a broader participation of bidders will be created. Additionally, companies who respond to proposals can use the solution to produce a greater proposal win rate.
