Students Imagine a World Where Technology Creates a Sustainable Environment
The Imagine Cup is the world’s premier student technology competition and one way Microsoft is encouraging young people to apply their imagination, their passion and their creativity to technology innovations that can make a difference in the world – today. Now in its sixth year, the Imagine Cup has grown to be a truly global competition focused on finding valuable, real world solutions that could significantly improve the lives of millions of people around the world.
This summer, the Imagine Cup hosted in Paris, France brought together young technologists worldwide to help resolve some of the world’s toughest challenges. This year’s competition challenged a total of 370 students from 124 teams representing 61 countries and regions to “Imagine a world where technology enables a sustainable environment.”

Winner of the Imagine Cup 2008 Software Design Interoperability Award
The Interoperability Achievement Award is designed to recognize interoperable software solutions using both Microsoft and other technologies to connect people, data or diverse systems and help address
real-world customer needs.
The Grand Prize was won by India’s Team SKAN: Sameet Singh Khajuria, Karun AB, Amith George and Noel Sequeira. The team’s winning project, called ENPOWER, enables organizations to reduce their CO2 emissions and environmental impact. The tool optimizes power usage for PC networks running on varied operating systems, including Windows and Linux clients.

The Software Design Interoperability Award World Finalists
Team Ecologix - Brazil Watch the video
The team’s winning entry, titled Ecologger, is an interactive and extendable decision support system that can be used to optimize decision-making on environmental issues. Accessible in several platforms – such as mobile devices, digital TV, and the Web – it increases users’ environmental consciousness and stimulates them to actively participate in the process of achieving a sustainable environment.
Team Together – Poland Watch the video
Developed as both a carpooling site and a social network, Team Together’s invention called “ToGetThere” allows users to sign up and get matched with people who are going in the same direction and share similar hobbies and interests. By integrating cutting-edge Microsoft technologies with Java as well as Open standards such as GPX, clients can use any possible platform, from PC and mobile phones to social portals like Facebook and orkut, to reduce their carbon footprint and make new friends.
