Title
Wi-Fi Hand-off to Diversified Base Stations

Description
Using current Wi-Fi hand-off methods, moving mobile devices are artificially limited to talking to only one access point, or only one base station at a time, even though there may be other base stations in the area. This leads to frequent disruptions in connectivity, and can cause problems for applications such as VoIP.

Wi-Fi Hand-off to Diversified Base Stations is a protocol that opportunistically exploits base station diversity to minimize disruptions and support interactive applications for moving mobile clients. For example, it improves interactive Wi-Fi connections for moving vehicles. It provides cheap connectivity for common applications, such as Web browsing and VoIP in moving vehicles. It does all this using a decentralized and lightweight probabilistic algorithm for coordination between participating base stations.
