Cool T-Shirt give-away!

It's
December already and I actually haven't used the 'R' word to date in
this newsletter - which I personally think is good going! With Christmas
fast approaching, and all the media coverage continuing to focus on
the credit crunch and cost-saving shopping trips to the North, I feel
nauseous every time I turn on the radio! Job losses, negative
property equity and belt-tightening - it's tough going.
With the newsletter packed with all the good stuff coming your way
from Microsoft, there has been little time or space to dwell on the
downturn, perhaps? This week, without labouring the topic, I wanted
to share some practical cost-saving pointers which I hope you will
find to be refreshing amidst all the 'R' hype. We have all felt the
impact of the trading downturn in different ways; less money being
spent, less credit available, and for us in IT, limited budgets and
resources. As well as showing the significant role IT can play in
these times, you can also learn about the importance of leveraging IT
investments you have already made. Doing more with less is the name
of the game.

Elite with a copy of Rockband
up for grabs in the draw at the end of the event??!!

expect when deploying Office 2007 and Windows Vista and some
of the key resources which will support you in making your rollout a
complete success. This interactive training session has been
specially designed for Technical decision makers, IT implementers and

these technologies can be'.

Wrapping this edition up..I am giving away possibly the coolest
and geekiest stocking-filler an IT Pro can ask for this
Christmas! It's true, I have a Wi-Fi Detecting T-Shirt up for
grabs - the ultimate in geek chic attire (as tastefully modelled
below by my colleague Will). See http://www.firebox.com/product/2058/Wi-Fi-Detecting-T-Shirt
to source your own.

Email
me with your thoughts on what speakers you would like to have
brought to Ireland in the New Year for Local TechNet Events, and I
will draw a winner at random and see that the prize is delivered
pre-Christmas. Good luck!
Thanks for reading!

There is a SharePoint
User Group Ireland meeting coming up next week which would will
be a good one to attend, especially if you missed the inaugural

nice way of introducing a lot of different SharePoint topics which
can be covered in future meetings. Be sure to attend to get your
request for a meeting topic, as there is likely to be a strawpoll
done on the night.
The meeting takes place on the 17th December @ 6pm in
Microsoft's atrium B building in Sandyford Industrial Estate (map).
See event details and how to register @ http://www.sugie.org/.

An
update is available that integrates Windows Server Update Services
(WSUS) 3.0 into Server Manager in Windows Server 2008
The Server Manager snap-in is a new feature in Windows Server 2008
that guides administrators through installing, configuring, and
managing Windows Server 2008 roles and features. For more information
about Server Manager, visit the following Microsoft Web site: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/servermanagement.mspx
By default, Windows Server 2008 includes several server roles. Server
Manager enables integration of additional roles and features that are
available from the Microsoft Download Center and from Windows Update
Web sites as optional updates to Windows Server 2008. One role that
is available as an update is Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)
3.0 with Service Pack 1 (SP1). This update for Server Manager in
Windows Server 2008 fully integrates WSUS 3.0 SP1 into Server Manager.
This update lets you use the Server Manager snap-in and wizards to
install, configure, and manage WSUS 3.0 SP1.
If you do not plan to install WSUS 3.0 SP1, do not apply this update.
If WSUS 3.0 SP1 is already installed on the computer, this update
lets you use Server Manager to manage WSUS.
