Command and Control System has added value for emergency management (The Netherlands)

ESRI Nederland, March 19th, 2008 An important multi-discipline emergency response exercise named ‘Eagle One’ took place in Safety Region ‘Gelderland-Midden’. Eagle One was the test case for a new Command and Control System (CCS) produced in cooperation by Geodan IT, ESRI Nederland and Microsoft. CCS aims to contribute to the creation of a Common Operational Picture and better decision-making during emergency situations.

Gävle Kommun Expands Use of GIS Throughout Public and Private Sectors (Sweden)

“With careful planning and management, we have successfully implemented a comprehensive regional GIS. Software solutions from ESRI and Microsoft provide us with a robust and fl exible backbone for our system,” says Eddie Larsson, GIS manager for Gävle Kommun.

With more than 1 million residents, the county of Surrey has one of the largest populations in England, primarily because of its proximity to London, the political and economic capital of the country. While widespread emergencies are relatively few in the county, events such as the fl ooding and fuel crises of 2000 and the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak in 2001 underscored the need for the local government to develop a method to promptly inform and advise its residents in times of disaster and provide a point of contact for day-to-day matters.

Bavarian Rural District Uses GIS to Improve Information Management and Distribution (Germany) (This team presented a joint case study at the ESRI International User Conference 2008)

With the implementation of its GIS, Cham has transformed a rural, decentralized regional government administration into a modern enterprise-based service organization. This was accomplished by optimizing its business processes between the central district administration offices and the various municipalities.

ESRI tools help get maps to the command center.

GCN, August 2007 — After the bridge collapse in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the city's fledgling Wi-Fi network allowed rescuers to access the city's geographic information system, which uses ESRI tools. That access was crucial in getting maps to the command center set up along the Mississippi River banks.

ESRI map shows population changes in New Orleans.

Time Magazine, August 13, 2007 — ESRI's 2005 and 2007 population data for New Orleans, Louisiana, was used as one of the sources to create this map [PDF] for the August 13, 2007, issue of Time magazine. The map illustrated an article about population changes in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina.

Map Machine and ESRI teach about Africa.

ArcUser, April - June, 2007 - National Geographic's MapMachine and ESRI's Geography Network will help hone students' skills in geography and geospatial analysis. The MapMachine, powered by ESRI technology, allows anyone to explore the earth through the creation of customizable maps at any scale.
