The ISV Royalty Licensing Program offers Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) a convenient
way to integrate Microsoft licensed products into software business applications,
replicate the business solution, and distribute a fully licensed solution to customers.
ISVs are organizations that exclusively develop software or software solutions,
rather than manufacturing hardware that is part of a computer system.
You can acquire licenses for your unified solutions either directly from Microsoft
or through the indirect, distribution channel.
Microsoft, the direct channel enables you to acquire licenses through a
agreement with Microsoft. All parts of agreement are executed directly between you
and Microsoft. This was the only way to join the ISV Royalty Program, until October
1, 2008, and the introduction of the indirect channel.
Distributor, the indirect channel will enable you to acquire licenses through
a relationship with Microsoft Authorized Independent Software Distributor ("distributor"),
rather than having a direct agreement with Microsoft. With an indirect license agreement,
you can choose from a broad group of local distributors to offer dedicated local
support to ISV product and service needs. Distributors are experts in Microsoft
licensing, and therefore they will be key in reporting and managing the Licensing
agreement, creating a one-stop shopping experience.
