Microsoft SAP Technical Community Update
From the Microsoft SAP Alliance Team
Welcome to the premier issue of the Microsoft SAP Technical Community Newsletter. The Microsoft SAP Alliance Team has already had a busy fall and is looking forward to using this newsletter as a vehicle to disseminate news and information to our customers. The team recently returned from SAP TechEd 07 in Las Vegas and Munich. At these events we have been showcasing Duet, Office Business Applications with SAP, and .Net Web Services Interoperability with SAP Netweaver. SAP customers have been especially interested in the upcoming Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 releases. We have also been very active in the Americas SAP User Group Community and are participating in numerous ASUG events throughout the year. We look forward to meeting you in at an upcoming webcast, workshop, or community event.

Thanks for reading and staying connected.

Recent Webcasts
This recent webcast is designed for IT professionals who would like to understand how they can unlock the power of SAP with the Microsoft platform. In this session, we discuss scenarios for interoperability across the front end (including Microsoft Office and SAP Netweaver Portal), applications and services (such as SAP Netweaver BW and Microsoft SQL Server business intelligence), and applications and infrastructure, known as the "applistructure" (including SAP Netweaver XI and Application Server with Windows, Microsoft BizTalk Server, and SQL Server). We also explore how Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) makes it possible to build solutions that dramatically improve SAP user adoption and productivity.
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 is the database that many organizations use for SAP business applications deployments. Attend this webcast to learn the best practices for setting up and operating SQL Server 2005 for secure, reliable, and scalable SAP deployments. Find out about architectures, 64-bit deployments, SAP Business Information Warehouse (SAP BW) configurations, database mirroring, and five of the most common configuration problems.

Spotlight on Office Business Applications
The 2007 Microsoft Office system provides a comprehensive set of servers, clients, and tools to make it easier for enterprises, software vendors, and developers to build and deploy a new class of business applications called Office Business Applications (OBA). In this section, you will find information about OBAs and how to build them using the Microsoft Office system platform.
The Office Business Application Starter Kit for SAP (OBA Starter Kit for SAP) showcases the power of Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 in conjunction with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Tools for the 2007 Microsoft Office system. (These tools are also known as Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office Second Edition, or VSTO 2005 SE.) These development tools combined with the Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 provide a compelling approach to integrating SAP enterprise processes into applications in the 2007 Microsoft Office system, such as Microsoft Office Excel 2007 and Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007. Download the kit today on MSDN.
Get the practical guide to implementing the Microsoft Office system as an application-development platform. This book highlights the breadth of approaches developers can take for extending line-of-business information to information workers in the familiar, usable format of the Microsoft Office interface.
In this section, we’ll describe the breadth of approaches that can be used to extend and integrate LOB systems and the Microsoft Office system. These approaches, Microsoft Office Business Application (OBA) patterns, are based on real-world implementations in many cases.
.NET Oracle and SAP application developers can qualify for a free copy of DevForce Enterprise (a U.S.$5,400 value).
