Windows Server 2008
Microsoft è lieta di annunciare Windows Server 2008, l'ultima novità della famiglia di prodotti Windows Server System.
Progettato sulla base del successo e dei punti di forza del noto sistema operativo Windows Server® 2003, Windows Server 2008 apporta oltre a nuove funzionalità, anche significativi miglioramenti al sistema operativo di base, che consentono di risparmiare tempo, ridurre i costi e ottimizzare l’infrastruttura.
L’utilizzo di Windows Server 2008 offre in vantaggi elencati di seguito.
Una solida piattaforma per i servizi aziendali
Windows Server 2008 fornisce fondamenta solide, ma flessibili, per la realizzazione e la crescita del business. È possibile ad esempio installare i ruoli e le funzionalità di Windows Server 2008 necessari e aggiungerne altri in seguito, man mano che l’azienda cresce. La console di Server Manager rappresenta una soluzione di gestione dei server unificata e comoda. Miglioramento delle funzionalità di protezione dei dati e della rete
Windows Server 2008 è la versione di Windows Server più sicura mai realizzata. Il sistema operativo potenziato e le nuove funzionalità in materia di sicurezza consentono di fornire un livello maggiore di protezione per le reti, i dati e le aziende.
La tecnologia Network Access Protection, ad esempio, impedisce che computer danneggiati accedano alla rete aziendale e la compromettano. Edizioni e funzionalità
Windows Server 2008 è disponibile in 5 edizioni:

Licensing
Le modalità di licensing di Windows Server 2008 rimangono coerenti con quelle di Windows Server 2003 R2, ad eccezione di alcuni miglioramenti. Ogni istanza in esecuzione del software server può essere eseguita solo su un server che disponga già di regolare licenza. Per ogni utente o dispositivo che accede a o utilizza direttamente o indirettamente istanze del software server Windows Server 2008 è necessario acquistare una licenza di accesso client per Windows Server 2008 (CAL per Windows Server). Oltre alla CAL per Windows Server 2008 è necessaria una CAL per Servizi terminal 2008 (TS CAL), per utilizzare la funzionalità Servizi terminal del software server. Analogamente, oltre alla CAL per Windows Server 2008 è necessaria una CAL per Rights Management Services (RMS CAL) 2008, per utilizzare la funzionalità Rights Management Services del software server. Per l’accesso degli utenti esterni è possibile acquistare una licenza External Connector al posto delle singole CAL.
Windows Server 2008 Standard
È possibile eseguire un’istanza del software server nell’ambiente di sistema operativo fisico e un’istanza del software server in un ambiente di sistema operativo virtuale. Quando si eseguono entrambe le istanze, l’istanza del software server in esecuzione nell’ambiente di sistema operativo fisico può essere utilizzata per:
oeseguire il software di virtualizzazione dell’hardware,
ofornire servizi di virtualizzazione dell’hardware,
oeseguire software che gestisce ed esegue la manutenzione degli ambienti di sistemi operativi sul server con licenza.
Windows Server 2008 Enterprise
È possibile eseguire un’istanza del software server nell’ambiente di sistema operativo fisico e fino a quattro istanze del software server in ambienti di sistemi operativi virtuali. Quando si eseguono tutte e cinque le istanze, l’istanza del software server in esecuzione nell’ambiente di sistema operativo fisico può essere utilizzata solo per:
oeseguire il software di virtualizzazione dell’hardware,
ofornire servizi di virtualizzazione dell’hardware,
oeseguire software che gestisce ed esegue la manutenzione degli ambienti di sistemi operativi sul server con licenza.
Windows Server 2008 Datacenter
Diversamente da Windows Server 2008 Standard e Windows Server 2008 Enterprise che vengono licenziati secondo il modello licenza server più CAL, Windows Server 2008 Datacenter è licenziato per processore fisico (numero di processori nel server) più CAL. È possibile eseguire un’istanza del software server nell’ambiente di sistema operativo fisico e un numero illimitato di istanze del software server in un ambiente di sistema operativo virtuale.
Il licenziatario potrà eseguire sul server con licenza un’istanza dell’edizione Standard o Enterprise al posto dell’edizione Datacenter e Datacenter senza Hyper-V in uno qualsiasi degli ambienti del sistema operativo.
Windows Web Server 2008
Le modalità di licensing riguardanti Windows Web Server 2008 sono state migliorate al fine di permettere il supporto di qualsiasi tipo di database sul server senza limitazioni per il numero di utenti supportati.
Windows Web Server 2008 può essere utilizzato unicamente come server front-end per lo sviluppo e il deployment di pagine Web accessibili via Internet, siti Web, applicazioni Web, servizi Web e servizi e-mail POP3.
Windows Server 2008 Itanium
Diversamente dalla precedente versione 2003, Windows Server 2008 Itanium è ora un prodotto Windows Server separato e non semplicemente una versione per soluzioni basate su processore Itanium. Windows Server 2008 Itanium presenta le stesse modalità di licensing di Windows Server 2008 Datacenter.
Modalità di licensing delle edizioni senza Hyper - V
Le modalità di licensing delle edizioni Windows Server 2008 Standard, Enterprise, e Datacenter senza Hyper-V sono identiche a quelle che contengono la teconologia Hyper-V, inclusi i diritti di utilizzo delle istanze virtuali.
Utilizzando le versioni di Windows Server 2008 senza Hyper-V, il cliente avrà bisogno di licenziare separatamente la tecnologia di virtualizzazione Microsoft o di terze parti.
Attivazione delle licenze a Volume
L’attivazione associa l’utilizzo del software a un dispositivo specifico. Durante l’attivazione MAK (Multiple Activation Key) il software invierà le informazioni sul software e il dispositivo a Microsoft. Durante l’attivazione host KMS (Key Management Service) il software invierà le informazioni sul software host KMS e il dispositivo host a Microsoft. I dispositivi client KMS attivati tramite KMS non inviano informazioni a Microsoft. Tuttavia, richiedono una riattivazione periodica con l’host KMS. Le informazioni inviate a Microsoft durante l’attivazione host MAK o KMS includono:

| • | l’indirizzo del protocollo Internet del dispositivo |
