Create custom templates

Using Visual Web Developer, you can create custom items or project templates that you can use for your applications or share with others in the ASP.NET community. For example, you may want to create a custom Web page template to add search capabilities based on MSN Search to any site.

To do this, simply create the Web page that you want to export.

Then click File..Export Template… to display the Export Template Wizard. From here you can choose to export the entire project or an individual item.

You can then set a custom icon, template name, and description for your custom template.

After completing the wizard, your project or item template is now available to share with others as a packaged zip file and is automatically added to your custom templates directory. To use your custom template, simply go to the Add New Project… or Add New Item… menu options respectively.
