Q. How do I submit a translation suggestion?

A. First, you must log into the forum site using your Windows Live ID.

After signing in Microsoft Terminology Community Forum site using your Windows Live ID, you need to register in the project (it is necessary to register for each project you participate). To register in a Microsoft Terminology Community Forum project, please follow the steps below:

  1. Click on Glossary on the top menu bar.
  2. Click on the link Suggest Translation or Vote next to the term you wish to suggest a translation for.
  3. You will be prompted to register in the project.
  4. On the Registration page, enter a display name, then click on I Accept.

To open the glossary, make suggestions, comment, or vote for existing suggestions

  1. On the top navigation bar, click Glossary.
  2. Choose a term for which you would like to add a suggestion and click on Suggest Translation or Vote.
  3. A new page appears that shows all translation suggestions and comments that have been submitted for that term. In the Translation box, you can type the translation that you believe is more appropriate, if different from those already suggested.
  4. Explain your choice in the Comment box. (Optional)
  5. Click on Submit Suggestion.
  6. If you like, in the Suggest a new Translation or Vote for an Existing Translation pane you can comment on other participants’ choices. (Optional)
  7. Alternatively, if your translation suggestion coincides with an already existing suggestion, you can vote for it in Suggest a new Translation or Vote for an Existing Translation. (Optional)

Note: Once the suggestion has been submitted, you will not be able to edit or delete it. You may submit a different suggestion or comment on your original suggestion.

Q. Can I edit or delete my suggestion or comment after I have submitted them?

A. No, you cannot edit or delete your suggested translation or comment. Only Microsoft can delete them. Instead of changing your suggestion, you may submit a new translation for the term or comment on your initial suggestion.

Q. Why can I submit suggestions for some terms, but not others?

A. Terms that have a lock icon next to them on the Glossary page have been locked by Microsoft. Additional translation suggestions are not accepted for locked terms. However, you may still view all suggestions that were submitted.

Q. I want the Glossary page to list only terms that haven't been locked. How do I do that?

A. From the Filter By drop-down list on the right-hand side of the alphanumeric navigation bar, choose Unlocked and click then Go. The Glossary page will refresh and list only the terms beginning with the selected letter that have not been locked. The filter you choose (Locked, Unlocked, Some Suggestions, New Suggestions, No Suggestions, or no filter) will remain in effect until you change it by making a new choice from the Filter By list.

Q. Why must I choose a display name to work on Microsoft Terminology Community Forum?

A. The translation suggestions you submit are attributed to you by using your display name. Other users will see your display name listed next to your translation suggestions, so be careful about including any personally identifying information (such as your real name) when choosing a display name. Your display name will also be listed on the About This Project page if you submit any translation suggestions.

Q. Will you pay me for my translation suggestions?

A. No. This project is entirely voluntary. It involves no payment or compensation of any kind.
