Microsoft Community Glossary for

Armenian

Welcome to the Microsoft Community Glossary project for the Armenian language. This is a project of IT Development Support Council, sponsored by Microsoft. This project provides a forum for Armenian speakers to participate in creating a technical glossary of software and hardware terminology.

The Community Glossary Website allows a locally designated Project Moderator and volunteers to build the technical glossary for those languages where terms have not yet been standardized. The terminology is drawn from words used in the interfaces of widely available software such as Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.

The use of local volunteers to build the glossary allows technical IT terms to be standardized and agreed upon by that community. Those translated terms then can be used for whatever purposes the community desires. This may include building local versions of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office using a special process, but this is not a requirement.

Using a volunteer process to build the glossary supports the following goals:

Helps local groups to promote and preserve their languages
Allows volunteers to develop their resumes and portfolios
Builds community and allows this community to create the official IT terminology database for their local language.

Guidelines

Please read the Community Glossary Guidelines and Rules of Conduct. The Project Moderator oversees contributor behavior on the Website. Those who violate the Community Glossary Guidelines and Rules of Conduct will be blocked from further participation.

You must be at least 18 years of age to participate in the Community Glossary for Armenian.

Help Create the Armenian Glossary

Click on Glossary on the top menu bar. A list of English words and phrases appears.

To list only the English terms that begin with a particular letter, click that letter on the alphanumeric menu bar.
Click on the "Suggest Translation" link next to a word or phrase you wish to suggest a translation for.
Each time you submit a suggested word, you can also include a brief comment explaining your suggestion.

Other Information

Participants: See who is helping to create the Armenian glossary! Go to the About This Project page to view the display names of the glossary contributors (ranked by number of accepted suggestions).

Schedule: All words remain open for suggestions until September 10, 2005. On that date the Glossary Project Moderator begins the review, selection, and locking of translated terms. You can submit suggestions until all words are locked. The final deadline for this is April 30, 2006.

Project Moderator: The glossary project is managed by the Project Moderator. This individual has been selected by IT Development Support Council as the linguistic authority who will review the translations suggested by all contributors. The Project Moderator will then select and lock each term. When all terms are locked, the glossary is closed to additional suggestions.
