This one-day instructor-led course provides students with the knowledge and skills to develop solutions using Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Office. This learning product assumes that the .NET developer has an awareness of the Office application object models.

Course OutlineModule 1: Using Visual Studio Tools for the Microsoft Office System
In this module, students will learn about using Visual Studio Tools for Microsoft Office System. They will learn how the architecture of the tools allows them to use the .NET Framework functionality and security in solutions that use Excel and Microsoft Word as a user interface.

  • Use Visual Basic .NET and Visual C# .NET to develop Office solutions.

Module 2: Developing Solutions for Word 2003
In this module, students will learn about the structure of a default Word project and how they can use objects from the Word object model and the .NET Framework class libraries to create useful Word solutions.

After completing this module, students will be able to:

Module 3: Developing Solutions for Excel 2003
In this module, students will learn about the structure of a default Excel project and how they can use objects from the Excel object model and the .NET Framework class libraries to create useful Excel solutions.

After completing this module, students will be able to:

Module 4: Securing, Deploying, and Updating Visual Studio Tools for Office Solutions
In this module, students will learn about the Visual Studio Tools for Office security and learn the advantages that each deployment model provides.

Before attending this course, students must have:
  • Experience with the Microsoft Visual Studio .NET development environment.
  • Experience with the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0 or 1.1.
  • Experience using either Microsoft Visual Basic .NET or Microsoft Visual C# .NET.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products such as Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel.
  • Some awareness of the Word and Excel object models.
