Note: This is a companion lab for Clinic 6404B - First Look: Getting Started with High Availability in Windows Server 2008.
This two-hour lab provides hands-on experience of implementing Failover Cluster technology in Windows Server 2008.
Audience Profile
IT professionals currently experienced on the technologies included in Microsoft Windows Server 2000 and/or Windows Server 2003, and who hold an MCSE or MCSA certification and/or equivalent knowledge.

After completing this lab, you will be able to:
  • Configure the Windows iSCSI target software.
  • Configure failover clustering.
  • Use the Cluster command-line tool.
Hands-On Lab OutlineExercise 1: Configuring the iSCSI Target Software and iSCSI Initiator to Create an iSCSI SAN
After completing this module, students will be able to:
  • Create iSCSI targets
  • Assign storage devices to an iSCSI target
  • Configure the iSCSI initiator on a cluster node
Exercise 2: Creating a Windows Failover Cluster
After completing this module, students will be able to:
  • Verify the Failover Clustering feature is installed
  • Validate a cluster configuration
  • Create a failover cluster
  • Create a file server cluster
Exercise 3: Testing the Failover Cluster
After completing this module, students will be able to:
  • Verify file server cluster connectivity
  • Verify manual failover of a cluster
  • Verify automatic failover of a cluster
Exercise 4: Using the Cluster.exe tool
After completing this module, students will be able to:
  • Perform a manual failover of a cluster resource
  • An understanding of SAN technologies.
  • An understanding of failover clustering concepts.
  • An understanding of command-line tools.
