Vous n'obtenez pas une certification nommée « MCP ». Sur votre CV, vous devriez utiliser les termes de certification MCPD, afin d'indiquer votre spécialisation et de montrer votre appartenance à la communauté MCP.

Le programme de certifications Microsoft évolue sans cesse pour proposer des certifications qui correspondent aux besoins des clients. Des responsables de services informatiques nous ont indiqué que la prolifération des certifications compliquaient leur compréhension des profils les mieux adaptés aux besoins de leurs entreprises. Les employés, quant à eux, souhaitent pouvoir faire la différence par rapport à d'autres grâce à leurs certifications. En réponse à ces demandes, nous avons créé un nouveau cadre qui réduit le nombre de certifications tout en permettant à chacun de mettre en évidence sa spécialisation. Présentées comme la « nouvelle génération » lorsqu'elles ont été présentées, les certifications que Microsoft développe actuellement pour de nouveaux produits sont plus simples et mieux ciblées. Cela simplifie la tâche des responsables lorsqu'ils doivent valider des compétences techniques, des compétences approfondies et des compétences architecturales. Chacun peut aussi prouver ses compétences de façon plus flexible, mieux adaptée et moins coûteuse que par le passé.

Toutes les certifications Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS abrégé en TS), Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP abrégé en PRO), et Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD) disparaissent lorsque Microsoft arrête le support principal de la technologie correspondante. Lorsqu'une certification disparaît, elle apparaît toujours dans votre dossier de formation mais avec la mention « inactive ». Dans la plupart des cas , une mise à jour est disponible vers une certification plus récente. Cela vous permet de montrer vos compétences sur une version plus récente du logiciel sans devoir passer tous les examens associés à la nouvelle certification. Les certifications suivantes ne disparaîtront pas : Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST), Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA), Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD) et Microsoft Certified Applications Developer (MCAD).
